He was hospitalized several times and we were forced to use CA at a studio called the Track Shack. The owner, Chuck Hansen, substitute bass players on our gigs when he was out. Our drummer David Whad graciously invited us to record at his studio whenever we Garibaldi needed two hip replacement surgeries and was out for most of were not gigging and his studio was available. We were able to do a few the year in 2015. days recording here and there in January, February and August and then We pressed on and continued going in to record every chance we could didn’t come back till January 2013. is a working band. while Joe Vannelli and his invaluable assistant, Joe Primeau, were We gig a lot!!! steadily applying their expertise to the tracks and it was really starting I had been talking with Ron Barnett (our original manager in the late ‘60s to sound like a record. and early ‘70s) and he had told me in no uncertain terms that we needed We had hired a wonderful singer in 2014 named Ray Greene and recorded to make the best recording of our career and that the only way to do that a good part of the songs with him and then Santana made him an offer he is the “Michael Jackson method” where you record way more than you couldn’t possibly refuse in 2016 and we were forced to find a new singer need and then pick the best 12 songs. It was at that time that I firmly in less than two months. resolved in my mind that I was going to strive to achieve that goal. Enter Marcus Scott; one of the greatest young singers I’ve ever known In March 2013 we were invited to record a couple of days with Joe Vannelli and truly a Godsend. What seemed at the time a truly crushing blow at his studio in Agoura, CA called Blue Moon. Those sessions went well turned into one of the greatest displays of God working in our lives ever. and we went back in with Joe in May 2013. It was at that time, after watching Joe, with his meticulous way of doing things, that I realized Then the horror of all horrors happened when David Garibaldi and Mark that the project was way too big for me to produce it all by myself and I Van Wageningen (Rocco’s sub) were run over by a train – right before the was led to ask Joe if he would consider helping me finish the project. We 11th of 12 shows in a row was about to start – outside a club called Yoshi’s had recorded about 17 basic tracks and done some background vocals and in Oakland. All seemed lost and we thought they both might die but once overdubs by then but we still had several more tracks to record. All that again God had other plans. Mark was in a coma for 8 weeks and David turned into 28 songs eventually. had three major facial surgeries but after the better part of 2017 had passed, they both got well and are playing better than ever. Besides the struggle of constantly touring and only being able to record when we had an available week here and there we also had other So to say the least it’s been quite a journey and through it all we moved difficulties such as our bass player, Rocco Prestia, having major medical forward in faith blessed with the superb people that God had placed in issues and eventually needing and finally (thank God) getting a kidney our lives. I’m truly proud of these recordings and of all the work that everyone involved put into them. 50 Years!!! I can’t believe it!!!
