With Adam Hauswirth, President Umpires Assoc. Well we would all have to agree that it was good to get Round 1 out of the way and the season off to an excellent start. As is always the case it takes both the players and spectators a few quarters to get back into rules and interpretations and they can then get stuck into enjoying the game. In the game that I umpired on Wednesday night, I would say that for 18 Burt Street, Boulder the most part both teams worried about playing football and not about what the Telephone (08) 9093 3160 - Fax (08) 9093 3162 umpires were doing. Email: [email protected] As is the case in most rounds of a season but especially the first, there are a few calls that the football public are not too sure of and I would like to help you understand two such instances that I witnessed in the first round. Pat Leighton FCA 1.) In regards to colts and reserves football, a game cannot start until there are CHARTERED ACCOUNTANT 14 qualified players on the field. Please see the attached GFL By-Law (4.5.6) which states this. Phone: 9021 1822 4.5.6 If a Colts or Reserves team can only field fourteen to eighteen (14 to 18) Fax: 9021 8277 players at the commencement of a game, then the opposing team must field the same number of players (one on one). The remaining players may act as Email: [email protected] reserves. If, after the start of the match the team starting with fewer players loses Electronic Lodgment of Tax Returns a player for any reason, no further match-up is required, i.e. the match is played Taxation - Auditing under normal conditions. This Rule shall only apply to the qualifying rounds. Business Advice 77 Maritana Street Computer Services (PO Box 876), 2.) If a team has scored a goal and the umpire has signalled “All Clear” to the Corporate Services Kalgoorlie WA 6433 goal umpire and an opposition player then commits an illegal act and gives away a free kick, the player will then be awarded another kick where the offence has taken place or back at the centre of the ground; whichever of the two is the greater disadvantage to the offending team. This rule also stands in the opposite instance when the player that has scored the goal remonstrates with his opposing player and gives away a free kick after the “All Clear”. The free kick will then be awarded at the centre circle of the ground as that is where the next action of play was to take place and is of the greater advantage to that team. I would like to also congratulate Jerry Vieieux on umpiring in his first league game last week and wish him well for the remainder of the season. We also Charlie Bloomer had another 2 new field umpires (Aaron Valente and Graham Larchin) in lower Ph: 9091 2666 grades last week and will look forward to Fax: 9091 2777 Empowered by Innovation their progress in the coming weeks. Mob: 0418 935 888 AUTHORISED CHANNEL PARTNER I hope this explains a few things and I look forward to seeing you all at the football. Page 2 Page 15 MITCHELL MEDALLISTS Honour for Miller
