VNE Server Data Storage

Policy for supporting OPNET solutions in SAN environments

OPNET acknowledges the flexibility, management efficiencies, redundancy benefits, and aggregate disk throughput offered by well-designed SAN environments. Further, OPNET fully expects its software to perform well when deployed in a high-performance SAN infrastructure that meets or exceeds the recommended system requirements for local disk storage. However, OPNET has observed instances where SAN implementations introduce errors, latency and write bottlenecks, as compared to direct, local storage. Therefore, OPNET sets limits on the degree of support provided when its solutions are installed (partially or wholly) utilizing SANs. Specifically, OPNET will not address performance, scalability, or stability issues reported when operating its solutions in a SAN environment unless the performance, scalability, or stability problem can be replicated by OPNET on a dedicated system that meets OPNET's recommended system requirements. Additionally, at its discretion, OPNET may require the customer to re-create software issues outside the SAN environment on a dedicated platform (with local disks) meeting OPNET's recommended configuration.

OPNET may not specifically validate its solutions in SAN environments. Further, OPNET does not replicate customer SAN environments in the course of providing product support. Depending on the nature of the issue reported, OPNET may require the customer to investigate SAN configuration, logs, and errors, as well as network errors prior to OPNET support staff proceeding with detailed investigation and issue resolution. In addition, the customer is expected to work with its respective SAN vendor(s) in order to resolve SAN implementation and/or configuration issues that cannot be replicated on dedicated hardware containing local disks.

Note: VNE Server's data storage requirements include but are not limited to (a) root installation directory, (b) data storage server directories, (c) temporary directory, (d) configuration archive directory, and (e) keystore directory.

Special Requirements (Linux)

On Linux installations the license file must be stored in either the /opt or /var/adm directory. The directory that is chosen must be located on a local hard drive or partition, may not be a symbolic link, and may not be a network mounted partition.
