Download Whoosh! from Apple Is an International Non-Profit Organizationradnor That Brings Winter 2018 WAYNE BUSINESS ASSOCIATION 2017 YEAR IN REVIEW As we head into 2018, we can’t help but reflect on 2017 and be ever more thankful and proud to live in such a great place. Wayne is our home and home to so many different individuals and businesses whose diversity and culture have contributed to the community and helped us continue to grow. For the Wayne Business Association, this was our busiest year yet! In addition to adding value through programs like the weekly Thursday night extended merchant hours of Wayne Open Late – designed to market/create excitement about Wayne as a destination town for visitors and consumers to shop, dine, stay, indulge, and engage services – we have also hosted a variety of other events that have become mainstays in our little town. All of this could not be done without our ever-expanding member list and our township officials! We’d like to thank everyone who has come to events, volunteered around town, and taken part in planning meetings. Our busy year kicked off in April with our Annual Meeting and Awards Presentation – one of the most well-attended events of the year! Every year we thank our members, swear in new board members, and give out appreciation and service awards. This year we honored Patty Lee with the Benjamin V.M. Wilson Community Service Award – presented annually to a resident with exemplary volunteer service to the Radnor community. Patty is a lifelong resident of Radnor Township, attended Radnor schools, and is a retiree of the Radnor School District. She embodies what it means to give back to our community! She volunteers for the Garrett Hill Community and the 4th of July Parade, Radnor High School Scholarship Fund, Radnor High School Hall of Fame, and other township activities. During this meeting, we also presented the Lawrence T. Adelberger, Sr. Membership Service Award to WBA board member and ALAPA's Nan Mangine for her exemplary volunteer service for the Wayne Business Association and its membership. The previous three winners of the award selected Nan as the recipient and she even received the award from last year's winner Nancy Campbell, Executive Director of Wayne Art Center. Spring started off with a bang with crowd favorite Wheels of Wayne (held in April by Radnor Township) and was followed by the ever-popular Wayne Music Festival sponsored by WXPN in June! Radnor Township’s 4th Annual Wheels of Wayne once again took over North Wayne and West Avenues with its large display of antique, classic, and custom cars and motorcycles, as well as plenty of entertainment, food, prizes, and the annual pulled pork and pizza contests. Wayne was inundated again in June when the Wayne Music Festival rolled into town, drawing one of our biggest crowds for the festival yet! Music enthusiasts came from far and wide to enjoy a vast array of musical genres and artists from all over the country, as well as local and regional acts, 75+ local restaurants, vendors, and even a large firework display to cap off the night. A huge shout out to the bands that performed, and especially Ken Kearns, Chris Todd, and Andy Dickerson for spearheading, planning, and organizing the event. We once again rounded out the year with our largest events: the Radnor Fall Festival in September and Christmas in Wayne in December. Celebrating its 25th year, the annual Radnor Fall Festival included live music performances from Bach to Rock, dance continued on page 2 WayneBusiness.com waynebusiness waynepabiz waynepabiz 2017 YEAR IN REVIEW (CONT'D) performances from Contempra Dance, rides, moon bounces, ziplines, vendors, food, and more. Wayne welcomed in December with the annual tree lighting event – Christmas in Wayne. Carriage rides, ornament making, carolers, reindeers, the tree lighting, and Santa's arrival, as well as Saturday’s parade and pictures with Santa on the Wayne Hotel veranda made the weekend a memorable one, as always. To get the town in the holiday spirit, the WBA encouraged all merchants to participate in the annual Windows of Wayne decorating contest. Not only is this a great way to dress up the town, but it allows the merchants to show off their personality and draw holiday crowds in with magnificent window displays. Winners for a variety of categories were named during Christmas in Wayne. Aside from the popularity of the Fall Festival and Christmas in Wayne themselves, Fall and Winter also incorporated a very special and hugely successful holiday themed Wayne Open Late! Wayne was packed with Trick and/or Treaters for Halloween as retailers went all out – a treat bowl of various in store discounts at Coco Blu, Song for Seeds performed at Bella Donna, costume contest at Main Point Books, Mr. and Mrs. Incredible ran over from Young Sports to hand out candy at Kids 'N Kribs, and over at Louella they were handing out free BonBon earrings. For Christmas time, Wayne Open Late took over a vacant storefront on Lancaster Avenue and hosted its own event with Santa and Wayne’s own Buddy the Elf, as well as popup shops from Stella and Dot, Lularoe, and new 19087 merchandise. UPDATE – WAYNE BEAUTIFICATION The Wayne Business Association works tirelessly year-round to keep Wayne looking nice for our busineses, community, events, and visitors. To that end, we continue to work towards more enhancements in the district, especially along North Wayne and Lancaster Avenues, including lighted trees, renovation of planters along the main areas, new tree installations, and street sweeping. As we reported in the Fall, we have joined forces with Radnor Township and the Radnor Board of Commissioners. This year we have an Interim Commissioner representing what is known as the WBOD – Wayne Business Overlay District. Commissioner Matthew Marshall is helping by working hard to add more funds to the previously established Radnor Enhancement Trust and increase the support of the public works department and other large business in the township to help us maintain and beautify Wayne. Township officials plan to use funds from the trust to improve downtown Wayne. Our financial health is solid. We are making headway at addressing the unfunded liabilities and our Bond Rating was recently reaffirmed with very positive comments. Our auditors have given us a fine report with no significant findings, contrasted with only a few years ago where several significant findings were identified. And we have not had to raise taxes to fund our operations although there will be a small increase to service the debt associated with the open space purchase. By the time you read this the purchase of 71 acres of beautiful open space (part of Ardrossan) will have been completed and we will be planning for the development of a fine trail network. As you may realize, this purchase provides our citizens with a lovely 200 acre park extending from Lawrence Lane/Godfrey Road to Church Road along Darby Paoli Road. You will be able to hike from the Willows all the way to Godfrey Rd. and only cross a single street (Sawmill Rd.) and the beautiful vista that we all have learned to love, which symbolizes Radnor Township will exist forever. This has not been a year without contention, however. The development of the Ardrossan Estate was fought vigorously by the neighbors.

    Radnor Township Comprehensive Plan Update Section 7 – Historical and Archaeological Resources S E C T I O N 7 H I S T O R I C A L A N D A R C H A E O L O G I C A L R E S O U R C E S A. Introduction and Statement of Goals The social, economic, educational, and aesthetic benefits of Radnor Township’s historical and archaeological resources, as well as the contribution historic places make to community identity, is enormous. One overriding goal has been established for historical and archaeological resources in this comprehensive planning process: Goal Protect and conserve historic and cultural assets. Several simple statements can be made regarding the historical and archaeological resources in Radnor Township. First, the resources and the values in Radnor are plentiful. The Township has a rich history, of which it is justifiably proud. Fortunately, for a number of reasons, many of these historical and archaeological assets have been maintained and remain standing and many of the archaeological assets have not yet been disturbed. Many are in surprisingly good condition. Through the work of the Radnor Historical Society, the League of Women Voters, and many committed individuals in the Township, many of these historical and archaeological values have been identified and inventoried. Some are listed on the prestigious National Register. Two historic districts, the North Wayne Historic District and the South Wayne Historic District, have been designated and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In many ways, these efforts imply that the goal of protecting and conserving historic and archaeological resources is well on its way to being accomplished.

Built 1856, on site of school established by Friends before 1800. Extensive interior and exterior alteration of original building. First, thank you Gloria Clawson, WBA Board Member and owner of Kids 'N Kribs, for proposing and following through on the idea. Gloria has been organizing the whole thing to make this weekly event work. Thanks too to Deanna Doane, WBA Vice President and Owner of Click Canyon, for all the work on social media and to Mike Libert, WBA Board Member and Owner of Main Line Print Shop, Bridget Libert, and Alanna Clunen of Main Line Print Shop for getting the design work and printing done. Wayne Open Late is more than a retail promotion. The main goals of the program are to drive/attract overall additional consumers to Wayne to increase revenue for local merchants and to market/create excitement of Wayne as a destination town (shop, dine, stay, indulge). The 18-month program is centered around the "Late Night Thursdays" concept where merchants stay open till 8pm once a week (most restaurants remain open as usual till after 8pm). This committee-led initiative include additional marketing tactics to drive traffic (from outside Wayne) to Wayne, as well as online and offline promotion of the program's activities and events. WOL started mid-August and 6 weeks later the first theme night happened with huge success. Wayne was packed with Trick and/or Treaters. I thought free wine was the only catch attraction to get folks in – turns out, free sugar works as well!! Retailers went all out, a treat bowl of various in store discounts at Coco Blu, Song for Seeds performed at Bella Donna, costume contest at Main Point Books, and Mr.
