Described as a “superior instrumentalist and intelligent, tasteful musician” (Harris Goldsmith, New York Concert Review) with “beguiling playing” (Charleston City Paper), cellist Louise Dubin’s recent appearances include performances with the Piano Quartet at Garth Newel, recitals at Bargemusic, Caramoor, Piccolo Spoleto, sextets at Daniel Hope’s Savannah Music Festival Sensations Series, trios on Stephanie Chase’s Music of the Spheres Series, and many other concerts throughout the US. Recently at Lincoln Center, she premiered Divertissement, a piece for cello and piano written for her by Roger Stubblefield. She has performed in Zankel Hall, Chicago’s Symphony Hall, and at the Jazz Standard as part of Stefon Harris’s African Tarantella nonet, and at various universities as cellist with the Core Ensemble. Ms. Dubin has served as Principal Cellist of the Auckland Philharmonia, guest principal cellist of the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, and Principal Cellist of the Charleston Symphony, where her solo concert with the orchestra was lauded as “virtuosic, musical and understated” (Charleston Post and Courier). Ms. Dubin earned her bachelor’s degree from Columbia University, while studying the cello at Juilliard with Aldo Parisot. In 2011 she earned a doctoral degree from Indiana University, where she where was awarded the Eva Janzer scholarship to study with Janos Starker and two Graduate School grants to fund doctoral research conducted in France. Her dissertation on Auguste Franchomme has been the springboard for several current projects, including: premiere performances in Paris and throughout the US of Franchomme’s music, lectures at NYU, ASU Tempe, University of in Storrs, and several other universities; a volume of Franchomme’s compositions compiled and introduced by Ms. Dubin to be published by Dover in November 2015; and The Franchomme Project, an album featuring many world premiere recordings of Franchomme’s works, released in September 2015 by Delos/Naxos. The album was chosen by San Francisco’s station, KDFC‐FM, as “CD of the Week,” in the week of its release. She has given masterclasses at Sam Houston State University, Grand Valley State University, University of Connecticut, University of Virginia, and Wichita State.
