The Albanian Diptera fauna is one of the least studied in Europe; only 933 and subspecies have been reported from the country (Katona & Mizsei 2015; Pape & Beuk 2013). The tangle-veined () are a small family of divided into five subfamilies and 275 extant species (Marshall 2012). Nemestrinidae occurs in all regions, but there are some areas of higher concentration, i.e. from the Mediterranean to Turkestan, Easthern Australia, Southern Africa, Chile, and Argentina. The most primitive extant subfamilies, Hirmoneurinae and Nemestrininae, are the most widely distributed. The Hirmoneurinae are represented by the single Hirmoneura Meigen. Only eight species occur in the Palaearctic region; three species in Central Asia (H. turkestanica Paramonov, H. villosula Loew, H. vsevolodi Paramonov), one in Eastern Asia (H. tienmushanensis Ouchi), one in Northern Asia (H. oldenbergi Lichtwardt), two in Western Asia (H. brandti Bequaert, H. kunchuy Koçak & Kemal) and one species (H. obscura Wiedemann in Meigen) occurs in Europe and Western Asia (Bernardi 1973; Koçak & Kemal 2012; Richter 1988).

The specimen was collected during a field trip to Albania. I observed the in macchia and caught it by net while resting on an oak leaf. The specimen was killed by chloroform and preserved in 70% ethyl alcohol. It was identified using a BTC STM-4 stereoscopic microscope based on keys provided by Richter (1988) and Sack (1933). The voucher specimen is deposited in the Diptera Collection of the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest, Hungary.
