draft 5.indd 1 14/07/2015 12:50 Do you regularly hack around , , , , Hickstead, , , , , or ? Your riding skills, passion for horses and local knowledge could help reduce crime in your community and the countryside you love. According to NFU Mutual rural crime is rising and is estimated at over £44.5m, with tractors, agricultural equipment, quad bikes and livestock particular targets. In addition there are rising trends in the theft of fertilisers and pesticides; and for the first time equestrian equipment is featured in the top ten items most commonly targeted. As a member of the volunteer Equine Rangers you will be our eyes and ears in the countryside and contribute to the police’s effort to reduce these crimes, by reporting suspicious activity or people and raising issues or concerns with your local Neighbourhood Policing Team. Sussex Equine Rangers is a community venture supported by and the Police Crime Commissioner. You will not be working for the police nor will you have any additional powers than you have now as a civilian, but to volunteer you must be over 18yrs of age. Your local Neighbourhood Team will provide you with crime and intelligence bulletins about which they are seeking assistance in much the same way that Neighbourhood Watch and Farm Watch volunteers do. In addition as a Sussex Equine Ranger you will receive branded kit for you and your horse. This initiative is a first for Sussex and is a great way for you to help reduce rural crime while doing what you enjoy most! Email [email protected] for further information and an application form. We look forward to working with you as a Sussex Equine Ranger.
