Good evening and welcome to our 14th Annual Legends Ball. Tonight’s signature event, combined with our Legends Golf Classic, will raise more than $300,000 to support and embrace inclusion at our Y and in our community. Beginning in 2004, our Integration Initiative has responded to the needs of our community, providing opportunities for children, teens and young adults with disabilities to participate alongside their typically developing peers in Hockomock Area YMCA programs, activities and services. Because of the generosity of legends, sponsors, donors, and friends of our Y, more than 1,200 families have been impacted in a way that defines our original vision and hopes for our members and our communities. This support – combined with the efforts of our dedicated inclusion specialists, summer camp counselors, program staff and volunteers – allows all of us to make and keep a promise to our Integration Initiative participants and their families that at the Hockomock Area YMCA, you will never walk alone. Tonight’s gathering is deeply symbolic of the culture of inclusion embraced at our Y and embraced by our donors, volunteers, staff, and all of you. For that, we are incredibly thankful, and particularly proud. We owe a special debt of gratitude to our presenting sponsor CVS Health and are grateful to all of our Legends Ball sponsors acknowledged this evening and throughout the pages of this program. We could not have a Legends Ball without New England Sports Legends. We appreciate each of our Legends who display the same passion and dedication for helping our YMCA community as they have demonstrated in their athletic careers. Their commitment to giving back results in the smiles you will see on the faces of young people tonight and throughout the year. And we are so grateful to Peter Brock for his leadership, passion, and vision. Pete has enthusiastically chaired the Legends Ball since its inception. This evening we honor New England Patriots linebacker and Super Bowl Champion Kyle Van Noy for his accomplishments on the field coupled with his commitment to giving back off the field. Kyle’s belief in our cause and his giving back to our YMCA is as bright as his smile that literally lights up the room! When Kyle attended Brigham Young University, he lived with a family that had a child with autism. Recently describing his relationship with Colton, Kyle proudly exclaimed, “Our relationship is one of the great blessings in my life.” Life is all about relationships and when you see Kyle with the participants of our Integration Initiative, you see that the best relationships do not recognize differences or limitations. Kyle came to the Patriots in 2016 and has been a mainstay for the Patriots defense appearing in three consecutive Super Bowls, and was instrumental in capturing two Super Bowl Championships. The real stars of this evening, as they are each year, are the young people who benefit year round from the funds raised. Every day these amazing young people and their families will be reminded of our collective commitment to inclusion and community. Thank you for joining us, helping honor Kyle Van Noy, and for making our Integration Initiative a nationally recognized model for inclusion and respect. The spirit of caring and generosity that will be on display this evening reflects our collective devotion to enhancing the quality of life for us all.

4 hockymca.org INCLUSION OPPORTUNITY IMPACT INTEGRATION INITIATIVE AT THE HOCKOMOCK AREA YMCA

Created in 2004, our Integration Initiative is a unique, innovative, and impactful inclusion model providing life-changing opportunities for children, teens, young adults, and their families. The Integration Initiative creates and nurtures a community of inclusion at our YMCA. Since 2004, more than 1,200 individuals and families have participated in our Initiative. Many participants have grown up in the program and families continue to look to our Y to provide expanded social and recreational opportunities that parallel the wide range of ages celebrated in our Initiative. The following programs are current examples of providing environments for social growth, relationship building, and the comfort in knowing the Y is here for families: NEW HORIZONS SUMMER CAMP Created in 2011, New Horizons is an integrated program for youth with special needs to enjoy a camp experience with all children, designed to provide modifications and added support through smaller staff ratios. In the summer of 2019, we provided a camp experience to 194 children with special needs and disabilities no matter their ability. HAY HARMONY HAY (Hockomock Area YMCA) Harmony is a monthly gathering of the HAY Lightning swim team and youth with disabilities who participate together in games and activities in the pool, enjoying great social interaction in a stimulating environment and fostering inclusion and acceptance. UNIFIED SPORTS We support unified teams in basketball, golf, and flag football comprised of youth with and without disabilities. Teams enjoy the experience of traveling to state tournaments including playing at both Gillette and Harvard Stadiums. Our teams continue to earn many gold, silver, and bronze medals, bringing pride and joy to the athletes and their families. This past summer for the first time, our golf team played in the Special Olympics State Tournament of Champions at Stow Acres Country Club. Our first year participants earned 5 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and 2 bronze medals. READY, SET, SWIM This new aquatics readiness program is designed to support children with more significant needs to prepare for group swim instruction. Safety around water is very important for all children and Ready, Set, Swim provides our participants with this important life-long skill. THE VIP CLUB (VOLUNTEERING THROUGH INCLUSIVE PARTNERSHIPS) The VIP Club, introduced in 2016, meets weekly and provides opportunities for Integration Initiative participants over the age of 17 to learn about volunteering at our Y and within the community.

14 th Annual Legends Ball 9 2019 LEGENDS AWARD HONOREE Kyle Van Noy New England Patriots, 2016 – Present, Linebacker The Legends Award is presented annually to a New England sports legend for their accomplishments on the field coupled with their commitment to giving back off the field. Our Y is proud to honor New England Patriots Linebacker and two-time Super Bowl Champion Kyle Van Noy with our 2019 Legends Award. Kyle attended Brigham Young University, and while playing for the Cougars as a linebacker from 2010–2013, he finished his career with 226 tackles (153 solo), 26 sacks and 11 forced fumbles. In his senior year, he was named All American and a finalist for the Butkus Award as the nation’s top linebacker. In 2014, Kyle was selected in the NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions in the 2nd round, the 40th pick overall. In 2016, he was traded to the New England Patriots and immediately became a stalwart for the Pats defense. Kyle was part of the greatest 2nd half comeback in Super Bowl history as the Patriots defeated the Atlanta Falcons 34–28 in overtime in Super Bowl LI. In his three seasons with the New England Patriots, Kyle Van Noy has appeared in 3 Super Bowls, earning two Vince Lombardi Championship trophies. In 2014, Kyle married Marissa Powell and earlier this year, they welcomed their son Trae. Kyle was adopted as an infant, and Marissa’s father and younger brother were both adopted. As a result, Kyle and Marissa are passionate about raising funds to support foster families and have created the Van Noy Valor Foundation to do just that. The Van Noy’s are also passionate about inclusion and the Hockomock Area YMCA’s Integration Initiative. Kyle’s belief and commitment to this Initiative is significant and meaningful. Profoundly influenced by inclusion in college, Kyle lived with a family impacted by special needs and considers himself part of that family. When asked recently why inclusion for young people with special needs is important to him, Kyle responded, “Because you want to change a life. And what matters most on this earth is helping out children as much as you can and just giving back, to see the look on their faces and to see them smile.” It is with great pride that the Hockomock Area YMCA presents our 2019 Legends Award to Kyle Van Noy.
