Stark State College was founded in 1960 when computerization and the development of new technologies and companies created a need for well-educated, highly trained employees with two-year college degrees. Stark State College was born out of that need. Well-respected in the community, Stark State College plays a vital role in the economic growth and development of the region through its strong tradition of providing educational and training services to employers and residents. Today, Stark State College offers over 200 associate degrees, one-year certificates and career enhancement certificates in business and entrepreneurial studies, education, liberal arts, mathematics, engineering technologies, information technology, health and public services, and sciences. Degrees awarded are the associate of arts, associate of science, associate of applied science, associate of applied business and associate of technical studies. These degrees prepare our graduates for career success as they move directly into the workforce or choose to continue their education in pursuit of a baccalaureate degree. A wide range of short-term career enhancement certificates help employees improve skills and gain a competitive edge in a society with rapidly changing technology. Career enhancement certificates lead to associate degrees and one-year certificates in various fields of study. Community and business partnerships are vital to Stark State’s success. The College has developed an outstanding reputation among business and industry for its willingness to aggressively enhance workforce development activities in support of emerging busi- ness needs. Members must have a cumulative 3.75 GPA or higher in at least 16 semester hours of degree-related courses and maintain a cumulative 3.4 GPA.
