  • Press Release
Press Release The Venetian Macao Hosts Three Chinese Olympic Champion Swimmers Sun Yang, Ye Shiwen and Luo Xuejuan visit Macao for series of events (Macao, Oct. 6, 2014) – The Venetian® Macao is hosting three of China’s renowned Olympic champion swimmers while they are in town for Gold Medallists Visit Macao, a series of events organised by the Sports and Olympic Committee of Macau, China and the Macau Sport Development Board of the Macau SAR Government (MSDB), co-organised by the Swimming Association of Macao, China and supported by Sands China Ltd. Gold medallists Sun Yang and Ye Shiwen arrived to a warm welcome at the integrated resort Monday evening, with fellow gold medallist Luo Xuejuan arriving later that night. Singing gondoliers and dancing entertainers performed to welcome the Chinese Olympians, who were greeted by Sands China senior executives in attendance, including President and Chief Executive Officer Edward Tracy, and Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director Benjamin Toh. Hosting Olympic superstars is part of Sands China’s strategy of bringing the world’s most talented names in sports, music, film and more to Macao. Being able to support the Gold Medallists Visit Macao community event demonstrates the company’s effort in supporting the Macao government as it promotes different kinds of sports to the local community. Chinese Olympic and world-record-holding distance swimmer Sun won the 400-metre and 1500-metre freestyle at the 2012 Summer Olympics, becoming the first Chinese man ever to win an Olympic gold medal in swimming; he also recently won gold at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea.
