DONAHUE ROWING CENTER

The Donahue Rowing Center opened in 1992 as a center for rowing activities. It is located at the north end of Lake Quinsigam- ond in Shrewsbury, Mass. The center was constructed with a com- bination of a grant from the Offi ce of Environmental Affairs and private contributions, most notable of which was that of the Irving James Donahue, Jr., family for approximately 20 percent of the $1.1 million project cost. In 2002 the center was expanded by four bays thanks to a generous donation from the Donahue family and the cooperation of the Alumni Association. It is the home to a number of schools and the Quinsigamond Rowing Association. The bays in this state of the art facility allow for the housing of more than 150 boats, plus oars and other equip- ment.

LAKE QUINSIGAMOND

Competitive rowing teams fi rst came to Lake Quinsigamond in 1857. Finding the lake ideal for such crew meets, avid rowers established boating clubs on the lake’s shores, the fi rst being the Quinsigamond Boating Club. Founded in 1843 in Worcester, James. Academic life at Holy Cross is serious, challenging and exciting. Student-professor exchanges in the classroom, as well as in countless informal settings, are at the center of academic life at Holy Cross. With a student to faculty ratio of 11 to one, the opportunity for individual atten- tion is readily available. Few classes exceed an enrollment of 40, and most average 19 students. Holy Cross professors are widely respected in their academic special- ties. Many have national reputations for their research and publications, creative performances, recordings and exhibitions. Almost all of the nearly 300 full- and part-time fac- ulty members hold doctoral degrees from some of the fi nest universities here and abroad. Among the major academic fa- cilities on campus are Dinand Li- brary (which, along with three other specialized libraries on campus, has total holdings of more than 650,000 volumes); Iris and B.
