Southern Cluster Athletics - Friday 30 October 2020 Kia ora whānau,

On Friday 30 October we are heading off to the Southern Cluster Athletics held at Area School (TBAS). This is a great whole school event and it is an exciting day for our ākonga to participate in and to practice their school mātāpono (values) of manaakitanga, whanaungatanga, aroha and tū kaha while competing alongside other schools from the East Coast.

TRANSPORT The Town and Waiomoko Go Buses will run as per normal for before and after school pick ups and drop offs. We will advise whānau IF there are any changes to the normal bus schedule.

We are fortunate to have Matua Sam driving the Town Go Bus to transport tamariki to and from the event. However, we also need to know which whānau are going to be taking their own tamaiti/tamariki to this event so we can cross them off the transport list.

Please let us know by emailing tracey@.school.nz, if you are transporting your tamaiti/tamariki (by Wednesday 28 October) - thanks. If no notification is received we will assume that your tamaiti/tamariki will be travelling on Matua Sam’s bus.

Those that arrive at kura will jump on Matua Sam’s bus as soon as it arrives and we will leave immediately (approx 8.45am) as we have the event briefing in the TBAS gym at 9.30am. When arriving at the event please all meet under the Whangara School gazebos so we may start our day together with a karakia and to issue name labels to all ākonga. Let’s aim for karakia at 9.15am. Whānau who are transporting their own tamaiti/tamariki please ensure to arrive in time for karakia and briefing - kia ora!

AGE GROUPS Tamariki compete in their age group according to their age on the day of the event unless they have a birthday between 30 October - 13 November. If your tamaiti falls into this birthday category then a decision will need to be made on which age group they will participate in at Tolaga, as it could impact on their eligibility should they get the opportunity to compete at the Ngati Porou East Coast champs. Please make contact if this applies to your child and we can discuss it further.

TIMETABLE Please refer to page 3 for the timetable of the day. There will be no scheduled lunch break so tamariki will be encouraged to graze and hydrate throughout the day. The event will finish at around 2pm after the relays are completed, however, Matua Sam’s bus will leave the event at 2pm sharp to ensure his schedule is kept on time.

GEAR Please ensure that your tamaiti has the necessary gears and that all items are named. They need: - Whāngārā School t-shirt (or plain black t-shirt) and black shorts or tights - Big packed lunch - Filled water bottle - Potae - Warm clothes (even if it is hot) - Sunscreen (applied before arriving at the event; sunscreen will also be available at the gazebo)

LEAVING BEFORE THE END OF THE EVENT If you wish to take your tamaiti/tamariki home before the end of the event an adult must inform Koka Amy to get your tamaiti/tamariki ticked off the roll so we are not looking for them at the end of the day. This is a vital safety procedure so we know all tamariki are accounted for - kia ora!

RAIN DAY If the event is postponed due to weather conditions, it will be moved to Monday 2 November 2020. When emailing to advise you will be transporting your tamaiti/tamariki on Friday 30 October please also indicate whether that would include (or not) transport on the rain day as well. Thanks.

NGATI POROU EAST COAST CHAMPS AT NGATA MEMORIAL COLLEGE IN - Friday 13 November If your tamaiti places 1st, 2nd or 3rd in an event then they qualify to compete at the Ngati Porou East Coast Champs in Ruatoria, in the event or events that they place in only. We will confirm placings as soon as the results are received. Please note that it will be whānau's decision whether their tamariki attends the champs, or not, and it will also be up to whānau to take them to Ngata Memorial College on the day too.

We are all really looking forward to the event in Tolaga Bay. It is a really positive day and it’s all about our tamariki getting out there and giving things a go! We always appreciate the positive support that our whānau offer every year to our tamariki so thank you for your effort too.

Any queries please feel free to contact us at kura.

Ngā mihi nui nā, Koka Tracey
