♦ And a voice came from heaven. "You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased." Luke 3: 15-16, 21-22. Today's feast of Jesus' baptism challenges us to renew our baptismal vow to respond to that call and claim -- in every decision we make, in everything we do -- that we are disciples of Jesus, the beloved Son. Question for the Car: Isaiah says that “God comforts His people”. How can I share this comfort and mercy with others?

♦ Christmas Thank You: We are overwhelmed with gratitude for@ all those who put special effort into helping with the Christmas music and the other liturgical ministries as we celebrated Christmas this year — for those who have decorated inside and outside of the church (and have cleaned up afterwards) — for those who have helped those in need during this season through the Giving Tree Program, St. Vincent de Paul, and other efforts — and for those whose Merry Christmas! greetings, cookies, and gifts have brightened our days. Fr. PJR

♦ Thank you, as well, for your extraordinary generosity to the Christmas Collection (reported in next week’s Bulletin). We are also most grateful for the “end-of-the-year giving” that several folks exercised on behalf of our Building and Endowment Funds. God bless you in this New Year! Fr. PJR

♦ Honduras Mission – Please pray for the safety and success of our parish-sponsored Medical Mission Team who are traveling to Honduras this week. Seventy missionaries – dentists, medical doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and other health professionals, joined by translators and other helpers – are serving with Fr. Mike Ausperk in this partnership with our friends in Honduras. They took with them an incredible supply of vitamins and other medicines that have been prepared in recent weeks by volunteers. Thank you for all the support.

♦ The Collection for Catholic University of America will take place during January. Every year, millions of Catholics across the country contribute to the National Collection for The Catholic University of America through their parishes. The collection raises millions of dollars that go directly to support student financial aid at Catholic University of America (CUA). Envelopes for this purpose are included in your January packets – and can be submitted throughout the month of January. Faith Direct participants can designate a donation online.

♦ Lenten Mission — Please save the dates (March 5-9): We urge you to mark your calendar for a special Lenten Retreat during this Jubilee Year of Mercy. Fr. Anthony Marshall, SSS — a Blessed Sacrament Father stationed at St. Paschal Baylon Church in Highland Heights — will present a Lenten Mission at Holy Family. This will take place March 5-9. Preliminary plans call for Fr. Marshall to preach at the Masses on the weekend of March 5-6 — and lead sessions in the Church at 7:00pm on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings, March 7-9. Details will follow shortly. Please plan to make this an important part of your Lenten journey this year.

♦ Winter Weather Advisory – Sooner or later, winter will arrive! Our “senior” parishioners should be cautious about coming to church when the weather is severe – or when the streets and sidewalks are icy. You are not expected to take your life in your hands to fulfill your Sunday obligation. It would be better to pray at home safely – so that you can be healthy enough to attend Mass the following week when the weather is, hopefully, better. Younger, healthier folks are still obliged to make a reasonable effort to celebrate the Eucharist each Sunday.

♦ Kleenex Advisory – When colds and flu are rampant, please exercise caution. Please refrain from shaking hands or receiving Communion from the Cup when you are experiencing cold/flu symptoms. Consider staying at home -- to avoid spreading germs. Please take your Kleenex with you – rather than leaving it in the pew where others will later be sitting. We’re supposed to share our gifts – but keep our germs to ourselves! This is also a good time to remind ourselves to leave the pew we have used tidy and well-organized (hymnals and prayer cards) for the next occupants.

♦ Holy Family School – A “Blue Ribbon School of Excellence”: Parents of school age — or pre-school age — children are encouraged to consider Holy Family School for their children. We suggest that you contact Mrs. Sharon Fournier, Principal, at: 330-688-6412, Ext. 310 — or Mrs. Mary Lou Yannucci, Administrative Assistant, at: 330-688-6412, Ext. 314 – for further information about our School or to arrange a tour.

Blessings for a Happy and Healthy 2016! Fr. Paul Rosing

Immigration: "Timothy Cardinal Dolan, in his Christmas midnight homily at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, welcomed two 'refugee families who are here tonight.' 'They’re being resettled by Catholic Charities,' he said. Dolan said he would not mention their names or ask them to stand. One of the families, he said, was from El Salvador. The other, the cardinal added, is 'a Muslim family from the Ivory Coast,' in Africa. 'Jesus was born into a family that had to flee and become refugees,' Dolan told the congregation. 'We welcome them here tonight.'" From CathNewsUSA

Giving Tree 2015 Thank you for the tremendous outpouring of generosity on behalf of those in need. In addition to a couple hundred wrapped gifts headed to particular individuals, parishioners also contributed $10,405 in cash donations and $7,800 in food/gas certificates to the Giving Tree effort. A total of 71 individuals and families were helped. Thank you for helping so many people in our community through this wonderful outreach. A special thank you to our Giving Tree Committee who worked so hard behind the scenes to keep everything organized. They did their best to reflect your love and kindness.
