Presidents’ Message

We would like to thank everyone who volunteered their time to make the grand final day at Pioneers such a great success.

Both Under 9 teams put in a valient effort against the opposition and also a fierce wind that was blowing all day,at times it was so strong the kids were having trouble standing up let alone kick the ball. The U11’s grand final was a nail biter going into overtime and the U15s played a hard game at Pennant Hills Oval. Our U18 Girls couldn’t quite make it 2 premierships in a row despite a strong last quarter .Six of the girls sadly played their last game for the saints and we would like thank them for their time with the Saints and wish them all the best.

There is still time to book a ticket to the casino night tonight, the Trybooking site is open untoil 5pm. U14s Maroubra/Moore Park Paddington RSL Sunday 11th September 11.30 am -1pm Maroubra Saints JAFC financial summary for Season 2016.

With the season over it is a good opportunity to let the community know what has happened with the club financially this year. If you have any questions or would like to know more please email [email protected].

Total income for the season was $123,261. Registration fees were around $50K and canteen income was just over $44K. The importance of the canteen in the club’s survival cannot be underestimated. We received around $10K from fundraising and other activities, $5K from sponsorship and $5K from the NAB.

Expenditure was high and the club will have a modest excess of funds. Our largest expense is ground hire at over $27K. We spent $19K on supplies for the Canteen (canteen net profit of $25K). We spent $14K on promotional expenses (Pizza Nights, fundraiser costs, team clothing, photographs and trophies). Just under $13,000 goes to the AFL for affiliation fees, $10K was spent on sporting equipment, over $9K to pay umpires for home games, $8,800 on first aid, $3.5K on insurance and just under $2K on storage. Other minor expenses make up the difference.

In summary, total revenue was $123, 261 and total expenses were $115, 862 for an excess of $1581. With a new clubhouse to be built by council at Heffron, we would have liked a few more dollars in the tin to fit it out.

For season 2017 the committee will look at ways to increase revenue and cut back on expenditure so we have a little more in the kitty.

If you, your business or the company you work for can help with time and/or money the club would be grateful.

Thank You for Season 2016 - AFL Juniors

Now that we have reached the end of the 2016 season for the AFL Sydney Juniors Sydney Harbour competition I would like to take this chance to pass on my thanks to everyone who has made this year a success.

Firstly to Dean Lee as Competition Manager for Sydney Harbour Region. Dean as all of you would know plays a massive role in the week to week running of the Sydney Harbour competition. Dean is the key driver behind the development of the draw that takes over 500hrs to develop, and also manages the logistics nightmare that wet weather can produce. Thank you Dean for all of your work to support over 380 teams from Under 5 through to Under 18 getting out on the grounds each weekend.

To the Regional Committee led by Andrew Hurrell and comprising Dean Lee, Brian Gillard, Todd Williams, Ros McMahon-Bostick, Ken Johnston, John King, Marelle Sharpe, Curt Pahl, Jason Howard, Angie Zissis and John Dyster. The Regional Committee are the voice of the clubs and work collectively to support the successful running of the competition.

To Penshurst Panthers & Maroubra Saints for hosting Grand Final Days on the weekend. The Grand Final is the pinnacle of the season and requires a strong volunteer network to support the successful running of the day. Thanks for your efforts and please pass on our thanks to all volunteers that helped prepare your venues and gave a hand to help run the biggest day of the year.

To All clubs for making this season possible. All clubs are run by dedicated volunteers and therefore to all of those people that play a part in supporting their local clubs we say thank you. This year there were over 385 teams and over 8000 participants when you include Auskick in the Sydney Harbour region. Also a special thanks to all clubs that were involved in the Sydney Harbour Grand Final Day supporting it through Ground Management, Canteen, Raffles and any other capacity we say a big thank you. To the clubs that hosted Semi Finals and Preliminary finals, again these events take a mass coordinated effort and we thank everyone involved for running successful days.

I would also like to say a special thanks to some AFL staff in Lou McHenry and Hannah Richards. Lou and Hannah have played a big part in supporting Dean Lee with the coordination and running of the Presentation Night and Grand Final Days. Thank you for your support of the biggest events on the Sydney Harbour Junior Calendar. Also to all the Sydney/Illawarra AFL Development staff that have helped support their local clubs and attended Presentation night and Grand Final Days we say a big thanks for your contribution to the regions success.

To the Umpiring team led by Todd Williams, thank you for helping with the successful running of games each and every weekend. Todd leads a team of more than 20 volunteers that directly support clubs through umpire appointments to over 150 games each weekend. To all of the Umpiring Volunteers that appoint umpires, coach umpires, mentor and support more then 350 umpires in the Harbour region, Thank You. Finally to Bob Robinson, Simon Wilson, David Burgess and Barry Richardson that form the AFL Sydney Juniors Executive team. Thank you for your support throughout the year and for the part you play in the successful governance of the AFL Sydney Juniors in 2016.

Season 2016 has been a big year but now the planning turns to 2017 to make it bigger and better than ever. I hope you all enjoy a well deserved break from football now and enjoy what will be an exciting week for AFL in Sydney with the Sydney Swans taking on the GWS Giants in the first ever Sydney Derby during an AFL Finals series. It is an exciting time for the code and I hope to see everyone out at ANZ Stadium this Saturday afternoon. Thanks again for playing your part in making 2016 another great season of Junior AFL. See you all in 2017!

Regards

Carl Fletcher Football Operations Manager - AFL Sydney Juniors
