Following Divine Liturgy, the students returned to Keljik Hall where they quickly took their places to perform beautiful Christmas hymns and carols in concert. Sincere thanks to Jennifer Tagarelis, David Medzorian, Valerie Becker, Lucy Barsamian, Cheryl Keane, Yn. A WONDERFUL DINNER, Armenian dancing, and lively conversation were the theme of the Women’s Guild Christmas Party held at Byblos Restaurant in Norwood. Transported by automobile and van, on a cold wintery night, seventy guests enjoyed the evening filled with the excitement of Christmas. As the guests prepared to leave, a chorus of “Merry Christmas” was repeated over and over.

With the approval of the Guild membership, a planning committee was established to encourage new members and to propose exciting and informative programs for the Guild and all parishioners.

On February 18, 2008, had an evening of friendship and fellow - ship and delicious vospov kufteh. A short meeting and elec - tions were held at the end of the evening. Our Easter Egg and Pastry Sale will be held on Easter Sunday, March 23rd.

The Women’s Guild for many years has sponsored 2 children through the Children of Armenian Sponsorship Program (CASP). Tigran, 12 years old, lives in the Sisian Region of Armenia and Susanna, 17 years, old in the Goris Region. Recently we received a letter form Tigran’s mother, Teresa, stating that the $200 a year has helped them since they have faced financial challenges after her husband’s death. With the funds received, Teresa has been able to support her children, provide medical help for son, and purchase school supplies. The members of the Guild are very proud of their participation in this humanitarian endeavor.

SAVE THE DATE! May 4, 2008 Hello Ellis Island! by “The Way We Were” Armenian Music Theater Hourig P. Sahagian, Executive Producer/Director

HELLO ELLIS ISLAND has already entertained Armenian audiences in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts.

Set in the 1920’s, this straggly group of Armenian immigrants climb up the gang-plank of a ship bound for America – the land of their dreams. These voyagers – including mail order brides, a grandmother, bachelors, a grand dame, and a wealthy rug mer - chant – hail from the towns and villages of their historic Armenian homeland. They happen to be among the fortunate few who make it to steerage onboard this vessel, fleeing the upheaval of the Genocide in their homeland and looking forward to the safety and security of new lives in the new world.

The production is performed by an ensemble of singers, dancers and actors, paying homage to the efforts and hardships of their ancestors and relatives who made the journey to Ellis Island. A script based on actual stories, interwoven with traditional songs, makes this show a true masterpiece! 14 LOOYS • FEBRUARY/MARCH 2008 New Vision
