Teaching and Learning practices in the Department of ECE The key role of a teacher is to teach the concepts, which can be understood as meaning to facilitate learning of some target curriculum. Teaching is therefore intimately tied to notions of learning and there is a sense that if students do not learn then whatever the teacher is doing does not deserve the label of ‘teaching’. The use of innovative methods in educational institutions has the potential not only to improve education, but also to empower people, strengthen governance and galvanize the effort to achieve the human development goals for the country.

Collaborative learning : In order to optimize on their own and each other’s learning (Johnson & Johnson, 1999). To achieve this purpose, teachers have tried to organize different types of collaborative activities in their classroom teaching.CL can promote academic and social educational outcomes. Teachers also encounter challenges while organizing collaborative activities, such as designing appropriate group tasks, composing groups, managing class time and enhancing and monitoring productive collaboration. STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS: Chandra Kumar, Kranthi Kumar, Goutham & A. Srinivas has started a startup ”Befend.com, in August 2017 P. A Technical Talk on “MODERN TRENDS IN DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS”, organized by SREC IEEE Student Branch , on 21st January 2017, by Sri. A. Athif Shah, Chairman & Managing Director, ABE Semiconductor Design, Chennai. Some of the technology and developments described are almost light years away from hitting the mainstream. New trends and technology will come to disrupt visual communication every s ingle year. Visual communication also offers a more engaging way to present and work with information, especially if dealing with raw data or a lot of information at once. People will need to collaborate and work together on projects in a seamless way, regardless of language barriers, time zone differences and geographical distance. This is where visual communication really appeals. Businesses will be able to use visual communication tools to assist staff in working together. Visual Communication as a Collaborative Tool i.e Pictures speak a universal language. Therein lies their great potential and power. With workforces becoming increasingly global, an easy way to communicate quickly across borders becomes very important. Make no mistake, we do business with our eyes. Visual communication is a powerful tool for getting a deal over the line and business leaders are fast realizing that. From infographics to charts and presentations, the way we present things now is a far cry from the "Death by PowerPoint" slides of the past. It makes sense, after all. They say that a picture paints a thousand words—infographics probably speak ten thousand. A Two day workshop on “FUNDAMENTALS OF DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING”, organized by SREC IEEE Student Branch, on 17th & 18th March 2017, by Dr. , Professor, Dept. of EIE, Pondichery College of Engineering, Pondichery. Artificial Intelligence was made by streaming a video on how robots have impacted our day-to-day lives. Another video depicting ‘human labor and the present days’ automation that has replaced them by the technology was played. Session concluded with a thought provoking message, ‘Technology with a positive impact is eco-friendly’. COLOUR WORD GAME The Colour word Game activity finals was Organized On 6th September 2017 by Ms. Sridevi & Ms. Saritha faculty of ECE Department ,teach students about how color affects their moods, appetites, behavior, and learning by asking questions about how they feel around certain colors and whether they agree with research findings about the impact of color. Include a discussion about color-related phrases (e.g., feeling blue, seeing red, true blue, having a green thumb)in your lesson plans. finally to verify students if the phrases and their meanings match their experiences with color. To see and interact with the world, we first need to understand it. Visual processing is one way we do this, and is composed of many parts. When we see an object, we don’t just see its physical attributes, we also comprehend the meaning behind them. We know that a chair needs legs because the seat needs to be raised, we know that the wood comes from trees, we know we could sit in it, and so on. There is information that we process about the things we see without even being aware of that processing. First, the participant (student) reads a list of words for colors, but the words are printed in a color different to the word itself. For example, the word “orange” would be listed as text, but printed in green. The participant’s reading time of the words on the list is then recorded. Next, the participant has to repeat the test with a new list of words, but should name the colors that the words are printed in. So, when the word “orange” is printed in green, the participant should say “green” and move on to the next word DEBATE Debate is better approach for teaching and learning process, which built up competitive Environment in the classroom and was initiated by faculty coordinators Ms. Sridevi & Ms. Saritha. This event refers to a discussion in which two or more students present their views i.e., opposing positions on a topic or question in an attempt to make an audience (or the other group) accept their 25 | P a g e ELECTROVORTEX 2017 position. The event helps to publicize the voice of young engineers on various topics and highlight the contribution of young professional engineers towards solving global problems. Each year the debate focuses on a different theme reflecting the diverse ways in which engineering impacts on society. Previous topics have included fields readily associated with engineering such as energy and . Competitive structure of education will keep both the students and teachers motivated. The spirit of competition will prepare better and more competent classroom sessions with innovative and fresh ideas of teaching being devised in the pursuit of excellence, involving methodical planning of lessons, and adopting efficient, well- organized teaching strategies and tactics. Students will become enthusiastic as they will have to prove their skills against the best talent from other groups. HONORS: Congratulation to Janapati Ravichander awarded Ph.D degree under Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Ananthapur for the thesis entitled “AN EFFICIENT IMPLEMENTATION OF LOCALIZATION ALGORITHMS FOR WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORKS” on 13th November, 2017. ENGINEERING PROJECTS IN COMMUNITY SERVICES The EPICS design process includes modules like problem identification, specification development, conceptual design, detailed design, product delivery and maintenance.. This will also helps the students to improve their skills of interaction with different people in different communities. EPICS course helped me to know about the problems in the society and how we deal with the people and their problems in the society. Phase I: The students will do ethnographic survey, interact with different communities and NGOs to identify the problems and there after these problems will be discussed among the team members and one problem will be finalized as the need statement. Phase II: The students will be engaged with the community partner during the implementation of their project. They collect the inputs from the community partner to understand their needs and then develop the target specifications the objectives of the project. 26 | P a g e ELECTROVORTEX 2017

Phase III: Students will do ‘prior art search’ to identify the existing products available and also they study the limitations of those products, so that it will be easy for them to generate novel ideas which will solve the problem. These innovative ideas will be brainstormed and low fidelity prototypes will be developed. Phase IV: The student teams will take iterative feedbacks from the partner/users to refine their idea. Once the conceptual design is finalized, they move to the detailed design. Here they have to take approval from advisor about the product architecture (physical/functional decomposition, materials/specifications) and the special claims/ features of the project which make them unique from the available products of the market. Phase V: After the detailed design, the product will be demonstrated before the expert team and then tested at the user premises. (verification and validation tests). Finally the product will be delivered to the community partners. Assessment: Formative assessment will be done after each phase of the design process and grades will be awarded as per the defined rubrics. The evaluation sheet shows the parameters on which the assessment will be done. Center For Creative Cognition: In the fast evolving twenty-first Century, Technology changes so frequently, thus education system is becoming lame to produce good quality Engineers..cognitive engineering is a multidisciplinary endeavor concerned with the analysis, design, and evaluation of complex systems of people and technology. it com- bines knowledge and experience from cognitive science, human factors, human-computer interaction design, and systems engineering.
