CURRENT POSITIONS Botanist, Palouse Conservation District, Pullman, Washington Postdoctoral Research Associate, Denver Botanic Gardens, Denver, Colorado

EDUCATION 2015 PhD in Botany, School of Biological Sciences, Washington State University Dissertation title: Diversification and species boundaries in the western North American flora: Case studies from the Cleomaceae and the genus . Advisor: Dr. Eric H. Roalson 2003 MA Biology, Department of Biology, University of Colorado at Denver Thesis Title: Seed Dispersal in Southwestern White Pine (Pinus strobiformis Engelmann). Advisor: Dr. Leo P. Bruederle. 1995 BS Forestry, School of Forestry, Northern Arizona University

RESEARCH INTERESTS I am broadly interested in the evolution and distribution of the western North American flora. Specifically, my research has focused on the phylogenetic relationships and biogeographic distributions of western . In addition to broader phylogenetic approaches, I am also interested in the effects of population level genetic processes on speciation. Additionally, I have an extensive background in forest ecology research.

Curriculum vitae – Riser, pg. 4 TEACHING EXPERIENCE University of Idaho 2017 REM 431: Systematic Botany, Instructor. Spring In this instructor re-developed course, students learned the fundamentals of current plant evolutionary relationships and plant identification techniques. I used a combination of lectures and hands-on instructor-led laboratory exercises to introduce students to whole-plant and flower morphology, plant , evolutionary concepts, and family characteristics. In addition to regular exams, properly prepared and correctly identified student plant collections served as student assessment.
