He struck out 11 batters, which matched a career-high set April 1, 2017 at Middle Tennessee. - His season-high 6.2 innings was his longest outing since before his 2018 season-ending UCL injury (see below). His win on the mound gave him his first victory since April 8, 2017 against UAB. - In 2018, gained a redshirt after suffering a season-ending UCL tear in game against UAB, forcing surgery. In that contest he had pitched 8 strikeouts in 4.2 innings prior to exiting. Had a 3.55 ERA in 25.1 innings pitched in the five games he appeared in in 2019. - Martin leads the Thundering Herd pitching staff this season in innings pitched (20.1), strikeouts (29), and his 3.54 ERA is the best among Marshall starters. His 29 strikeouts are tied for second-most in Conference USA. - Martin was the first Marshall baseball player to earn weekly conference honors since Michael Guerrero earned Conference USA Co-Pitcher of the Week honors on May 19 of last season. Guerrero was one of two Herd athletes to earn weekly honors last season (Shane Hanon— Hitter of the Week, March 11). - The honor for Martin joins his conference accolades of placing on the 2017 All-Conference USA Second Team and 2017 C-USA All-Academic Team, and earning the C-USA Academic Medal (GPA of 3.75 or higher) all four years thus far of his career. - He makes his 5th start of the year (1-3). He went in the season opener at No. 4 Florida (L, 3.2 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 5 SO), vs Bowling Green in Wilmington, N.C. (L, 4.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 8 SO), and vs Canisius (L, 6.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 SO). - In 2019, pitched a season-high 4.0 innings twice against UTSA (May 4) and Rice (May 17), including a season-high 6 strikeouts vs UTSA. - Born on April 9, 1996 … son of Tom and Mindy Martin … father played football at Ohio Wesleyan University Saturday: #17 Brady Choban: Sophomore RHP - The 6-5 Sophomore of Monument, Colorado is coming off the best start of his season and career. He pitched in the second game of the doubleheader against Akron (W, 6.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 SO). - His win was his first career win, and his 6.0 innings pitched and 6 strikeouts were career-highs. - He pitched in the second game of the season at No. 4 Florida (L, 4.0 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 2 SO) and had nearly an identical pitching line in his 2nd start, Saturday at UNCW (L, 4.0 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 5 BB, 5 SO). His 5 BB were a career-high. - Had a setback in his 3rd start, vs Canisius (ND, 3.2 IP, 6 H, 6 ER, 4 BB, 1 SO) - Made one 2019 appearance in Conference USA play (4/19 at Louisiana Tech). - Born Sept. 16, 2000, attended three different high schools, Enid High, Mitchell High, and Lewis Palmer … Was first-team all-conference two times and first-team all-area once … Also lettered in basketball two years. Sunday: #27 Cody Sharp: Freshman LHP - The 6-1 Freshman is a native of nearby Kenova, W.Va. and Spring Valley HS...made his first career start last Sunday in G1 of a double- header vs Akron (L, 4.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 3 SO). - He had previously pitched in relief, going a season-high 4.1 innings vs Canisius on 3.1 (2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, season-high 6 SO). - Earned his first career win on 2/23 vs Bowling Green in Wilmington, N.C. in relief (3.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 SO). - At Spring Valley was first-team all-MSAC and first-team all-state…had a 17-strikeout game against Huntington High…helped the football team to the state title game three times...Born Dec.
