Instruction Differences:

Cutting out pattern.

Piece 3: If 1” satin ribbon was chosen for contrast piping, this piece is not needed.

Piece 7: Instead of cutting out of bodice fabric, cut four pieces of lace to this length. NOTE THAT THIS PIECE IS USUALLY CUT ON A FOLD. Lace will need to be cut to twice the length of the paper.

Pieces 10/11: In addition to cutting out of white/light pink fabric, cut out of organdy in same manner so that you end up with six skirt panels of both fabrics and a continuous lap of both fabrics.

Steps 5/6. If 1” satin ribbon was chosen for contrast piping, skip these steps.

Step 7. If 1” satin ribbon was chosen for contrast piping, use this ribbon instead of continuous bias.

Step 21. Skip.

Steps 44-50. Repeat for organdy as well. Once you complete step 45 but before sewing the center back seam, cut a piece of lace 8 yards long. Pin the lace trim to the organdy skirt with the top edge of the lace 14” from the edge that will be hemmed. There should be a small amount of gathering in the lace in order for the lace to match the length of the connected panels. Sew the two pieces together along the top edge of the lace. Resume instructions printed on pattern from step 46.

Step 53. Once inner skirt (made of white/light pink fabric) has been secured, attach organdy skirt to the grosgrain ribbon in the same manner, making sure that the wrong side of the organdy skirt is against the right side of the inner skirt. At the opening in the center back, sew the edges of the two skirts together along the continuous lap stopping where the center back seam begins.

Steps 59/60. Repeat for organdy skirt as well.

Additional Instructions:

Tuesday

Flower decoration at waist. Cut a piece of the wide satin ribbon approximately 1 ¾ yards long. At its midpoint (or slightly to one side if desired), pinch ribbon and hand sew to attach to back of fabric flower. Hand sew to secure flower to what is the right hip of the dress when worn, placing it where bodice and skirt meet. If desired, use a lighter held a short distance from the edge of the ribbon to seal ends and prevent fraying.

Headpiece. Use remaining length of the wide satin ribbon. Cut a piece of lace approximately 27” long. Aligning the midpoints of both pieces, pin lace onto ribbon with ½” overlap. At the ends of each side, gather so that the lace tapers until it barely extends beyond the edge of the ribbon. Sew the two pieces together following the edge of the ribbon, using as narrow of a seam allowance as you are able. If desired, use a lighter held a short distance from the edge of the ribbon to seal ends and prevent fraying.

March

Bow on skirt. Cut a piece of the wide satin ribbon approximately 1 yard long. Tie into a bow of desired proportions. Sew onto the organdy skirt on what is the right side of the dress when worn, placing the center of the bow on the top edge of the lace. If desired, use a lighter held a short distance from the edge of the ribbon to seal ends and prevent fraying.

Hat. Cut a circle out of the cardboard that is 10” in diameter. Cut two circles out of the felt, one that is 11” in diameter and the other 10” in diameter. Cut a piece of the wide satin approximately 1 yard long and tie into a bow of desired proportions. Take remaining wide satin ribbon and find the midpoint, sewing onto the center of the 11” felt circle. Position bow on the center of the same circle so that it sits directly on top of where the ribbon was attached and sew to secure. Flipping this piece of felt over, position the cardboard in the center and fold over edges of felt so they cover the edge of the cardboard. Sew to secure using as narrow a seam allowance as you are able, making sure not to sew over the ribbon. Center 10” felt circle on top of the cardboard and sew again using the same seam allowance as before, again making sure not to sew over the ribbon.
