5 Days 4 Nights Yangon & Surroundings Itinerary (for reference only, subject to change without prior notice)

DAY 1: HONG KONG - SINGAPORE - YANGON Meet and greet at Yangon International Airport and transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon, your sightseeing begins with a visit to Shwedagon Pagoda the most revered Buddhist temple in Myanmar. The original structure was built 2500 years ago then renovated several times until taking its current shape in the 15th century. The 8-sided central stupa is 99 meters tall and gilded with gold leaf and is surrounded by 64 smaller stupas and your guide will show you around the massive complex, explaining why this temple is so revered. Enjoy breathtaking views of the golden stupa from this vantage point and candle lighting donation in the evening. As the sun sets, participate in a special oil-lamp lighting ceremony. Join the local monks to illuminate hundreds of small candles in a symbolic Buddhist ceremony. Overnight in Yangon.

DAY 2: YANGON (BREAKFAST) After breakfast, venture downtown to explore the diverse city centre with its range of architecture, ethnicities and religions. Visit a traditional Chinese Temple located in Chinatown and walk through the lively streets of this neighbourhood. You will likely pass by a mosque, synagogue and Hindu Temple.

Continue to Bogyoke Market , formerly known as Scott’s Market, where you can browse through the wide selection of Myanmar handicrafts and other goods. (Note: Closed on Mondays and public holidays). Lunch will be on own account. Continue to Sule Paya , a golden stupa to enshrine the strand of hair from Buddha followed by a short walk to the Post Office, passing many colonial-era buildings including the famous Strand Hotel where we will stop to enjoy High Tea before returning to your hotel.

DAY 3: Choose ONE tour from the following :

Option 1: YANGON - BAGO (BREAKFAST/LUNCH) Check out after breakfast and depart to Bago which is located 80km northwest of Yangon. Bago was the capital of the 6 th century Mon Kingdom and is filled with historical temples. Arrive at Kyakhetwine Monastery , to witness the monks gather to collect food donations from the Burmese Buddhists. It is a beautiful ceremony that is an integral part of the local spiritual lifestyles. Visit to Bago also include , which houses a beautiful 55-meter long , and the Mon-style which is notable for its 114 metre spire and is one of the most venerated places in Myanmar. Lunch at local restaurant. You will have the chance to also visit the local market and a Mon weaving village.

Option 2 : YANGON - SYRIAM (BREAKFAST/LUNCH) Depart for a drive to Syriam, also referred to as Thanlyin, home to three universities. Explore this pleasant town, driving around the tree-lined streets to see the main sites and get a glimpse of local life. Visit the hilltop pagoda at Kyaik Khauk , which is 4 kilometres outside of the town centre, it offers fabulous views including Shwedagon Pagoda in the far distance. Also visit Ye Le Paya (also called Kyauktan) which is built on a small island. We will need to go on a local boat to get across to this unique temple. Then visit a local nunnery to make a donation of lunch. Return to Yangon.

DAY 4: YANGON (BREAKFAST) In the morning go for a short drive to downtown Yangon to visit at least three galleries but please note that the itinerary may vary depending on the opening hours. Start at River Gallery , located adjacent to The Strand Hotel, which aims to bring Myanmar art to a wider audience. River Gallery showcases the city’s widest range of contemporary art, representing more than 30 artists at any given time. Next visit the Lokanat Gallery that features a small collection of traditional works as well as rotating exhibits of current Burmese artists.

We will continue to Pansodan Arts to view artworks covering traditional period up to modern, abstract styles. Before leaving downtown we’ll visit the newest addition to Yangon’s arts scene, Sule Eain. Located adjacent to Sule Paya, this loft-style space features rotating exhibitions of contemporary painters.

End your tour with a drink at House of Memories Restaurant , an old colonial style mansion set in a beautiful garden. Once used as the BIA (Burma Independence Army) and BDA (Burma Defense Army) Head Quarters. Wander through the house looking at the historic remnants on display including a room named after General Aung San, which was once his office and still contains some of his personal items such as his typewriter.

Transfer to Mahasi Monastery , one of the best monasteries in Yangon for meditation training. Mahasi is renowned as an ‘Educational Spa’ throughout Myanmar and many pilgrims come here to learn, study and practice Vipassana meditation. Move into the meditation hall for your practice session and slip away into a deep meditative state, relaxing in the quiet, peaceful setting of Mahasi. After the meditation, enjoy a drink before returning to hotel.

DAY 5: YANGON – SINGAPORE – HONG KONG (BREAKFAST) Check out after breakfast and transfer to Yangon Railway station to take the local circular train journey to the town outskirts (20-30 minutes ride). The journey gives you a unique opportunity to observe the lively and colorful life of the rural Burmese people. Disembark to visit Kyi Myin Dain market where street vendors sell colorful wares. Enjoy exploring the market, meeting the friendly locals before returning by road to Yangon International Airport for your flight to Singapore & Hong Kong.
