Over fifty years of providing scholarship aid to young men and women in service to golf Westchester Golf Association Caddie Scholarship Fund, Inc. www.westchestergolf.org

WHAT WE DO

The Caddie Scholarship Fund, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, provides college scholarships to students with financial need who work in service to golf at Westchester Golf Association member clubs. OUR HISTORY

The WGA Caddie Scholarship Fund was established in 1956 by Willie P. Turnesa and Udo Reinach. With over 2,000 recipients since its founding, the Caddie Scholarship Fund has provided in excess of $9,000,000 in scholarship aid. OUR SCHOLARSHIPS

The CSF is one of the largest organizations of its kind in the nation. Caddie scholarship awards range from $1,000 to $8,000 per year for undergraduate study or for study at an accredited trade school. Maximum awards are reserved for exceptional students with exceptional need. ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must demonstrate financial need, have applied to or currently attend an accredited school, and have worked a minimum of two seasons in service to golf at a WGA member club. Service to golf includes caddying, maintenance, and work in the , bag room or on the practice range. Club members and their children are not eligible to apply. FUNDING

The CSF finances scholarship awards primarily through contributions from individuals, WGA member clubs, alumni, corporations, and foundations.

On the Cover: Old Oaks Country Club 3rd Hole. Old Oaks will be the site of our Pro Am on July 1, 2013.

2 Westchester Golf Association Funding sources include: BAG TAG PROGRAM Our major source of funding is through the Bag Tag Program. The purpose of the Program is to reach out for support from members of clubs belonging to the Westchester Golf Association. NAMED AND ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIPS Named and Endowed Scholarships give donors an opportunity to celebrate their commitment to education and golf. These spe- cial scholarships provide an enduring legacy for individuals, families and organizations or pay tribute to an individual or achievement. EVENTS Each year we hold events such as our Pro Am and Golf Marathon to raise funds and increase awareness in the community.

October 1, 2012

Dear Friends of the WGA Caddie Scholarship Fund,

America is truly a country of generous spirit. Thousands of cultural, environmen- tal, political, religious, social, compassionate and medical causes rely on our philanthropy. Through every form of media, TV, radio, internet, print, billboard and mail, we are being asked for monetary help.

While not to the exclusion of other worthy causes, why do we support the WGA Caddie Scholarship Fund? Good question, one that we may ask ourselves every year.

The reasons I support the WGA Caddie Scholarship Fund are fairly straight-forward:

• The Fund supports the educational aspirations of young people. Education is the key to our success as a society and as a country. Education gives individuals the opportunity to succeed.

• The Fund is local and it is personal. Among us, whether at our clubs or localities, we know the young people and families whose lives are helped though our college financial aid.

• The Fund raises money through golf and, by extension, caddy- ing. Arguably the best of all games, golf teaches critical life skills such as honesty, respect, confidence and responsibility.

Since its founding in1956, the Caddie Scholarship Fund has never turned away a student with financial need. Your commit- ment to our objective has allowed us to grant nearly $1,000,000 in the current school year to 265 students. These students repre- sent 59 WGA member clubs and attend 140 colleges, universi- ties or trade schools.

Thank you very much for your continued support.

Sincerely, Robert J. Bluestone President

Bobby “O” Golf Outing

On August 13, 2012, a golf outing was held in honor of the late Robert A. (Bobby ‘O’) Ormond, the long-time caddie master at Knollwood Country Club. Almost two hundred golfers filled Knollwood and Metropolis Country Clubs in tribute. Even more attended the dinner and benefit auction afterwards. Over fifty in- dividuals and organizations contributed auction and raffle prizes, and an equal number signed on as hole sponsors. In his thirty-eight years as caddie master at Knollwood Country Club, Bobby was a beloved mentor, father figure, and friend. He influenced the lives of literally thousands, and encouraged an unprecedented ninety of his caddies to become WGA Caddie Scholars. The outing grossed over $100,000. All proceeds will be used to establish an endowed scholarship – the Bobby ‘O’ Ormond Memorial Scholarship, which will be granted in perpetuity to Knollwood caddies. Major Sponsors

Special thanks go to Mark Brennan for helping to organize the tribute, and to O’s girls – Janet, Suzie, Joanne, Lori, and Lynne – for their tireless efforts.

4th Annual CSF Golf Marathon

The 2012 Golf Marathon was held on Monday, August 27 at Manhattan Woods Golf Club in West Nyack, N.Y. Participants included WGA caddie scholars, caddie masters, golf professionals and club members at Westchester, Connecticut and Rockland County clubs. The participants enlisted the support of friends, family and club members to benefit the CSF. Local businesses also supported their efforts by donating prizes for the most holes played and leading fundraisers. Playing from dawn until dusk, the thirty-seven participants completed 2,030 holes. The leading scorers were CSF alumnus Andy Kruczkiewicz and former WGA intern Reid Title, who each played 130 holes. The longest winner was Luke Chavez of Greenwich Country Club.

We are grateful to the President, Board of Governors and membership of Manhattan Woods for accommodating us on this important day. Sponsors
