Wedding Announcement Police officers to stay on high school campuses

DOWNEY – Downey police officers will continue to have a presence at Downey, Warren, and Columbus high school campuses as school resource officers (SRO’s) for the 2021-22 academic school year. The program between the city and Downey Unified School District has been in place for several years, in an attempt to both provide security for students and build a relationship between officers and the youth in the city. “We have different officers assigned each day of the week, and they have time to interact with the students there,” said Captain Leslie Murray at Tuesday’s council meeting. “It’s a dual purpose program that has been very successful in the past, and I know the school District really appreciates having us there as well.” Officers will be paid on an overtime basis, using funds froma $6,250 grant from Gangs out of Downey. Once that amount has been fully expended, the city will invoice the district for the cost of the SRO’s for the balance of the academic year. The agreement was approved unanimously 4-0, with Mayor Greg Welch, owner of Risher Mortuary in Downey, enjoys reading the Downey Claudia M. Frometa absent. Just recently I saw something in the newspaper regarding Roswell, New Mexico. It was either regarding an article in the paper or a TV advertisement for the latest new film opening in theatres, or perhaps a new series. The subject took me back to the late 1960’s when Ray (the father of my three children) had to make a business trip to Roswell for the company he was then employed by, Southern Wine and Spirits, which distributed Calvert products. His focus there would be the Calvert line.
