2013 Don Hansen All-Super Region Three Team Rodgers, Longacre, Brown, Mcgee, Dorrel Earn Top Regional Honors December 13, 2013 For Immediate Release 2013 Don Hansen All-Super Region Three Team Rodgers, Longacre, Brown, McGee, Dorrel Earn Top Regional Honors PITTSBURG, Kan. — The Don Hansen Football Committee has released the 2013 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All- Super Region Three squad today (Dec. 13). Henderson State quarterback Kevin Rodgers, a national finalist for the 2013 Harlon Hill Trophy, was named the Super Region Three Offensive Player of the Year, while NW Missouri State defensive tackle Matt Longacre was selected the Defensive Player of the Year. Pittsburg State return specialist John Brown garnered Special Teams Player of the Year honors for a second straight year, while Arkansas-Monticello placekicker Jamie McGee received Freshman of the Year recognition. NW Missouri State head coach Adam Dorrel, who has guided the Bearcats to a 13-0 record and a berth in the NCAA Division II national semifinals this Saturday (Dec. 14), was named the Super Region Three Coach of the Year. Rodgers, a junior from Rockwall, Texas, passed for 4,449 yards (404.5 ypg) and 37 touchdowns while leading the Reddies to the GAC title and an NCAA-II playoff berth. Longacre, a junior from Omaha, Neb., has made 47 tackles (26 solo) with 14.5 tackles-for-loss and 8.5 quarterback sacks. Brown, a senior from Homestead, Fla., ranked eighth nationally in punt returns (15.4 ypr) and second in Division II in all-purpose yards (200.0 ypg). McGee, from Lake Charles, La., converted 17 of 19 field goals on the season. In his third year as head coach of his alma mater, Dorrel has compiled an impressive 34-6 (.850) record, leading Northwest to three straight NCAA-II playoff appearances. His 2013 squad has averaged a 42-14 victory over its first 13 opponents heading into Saturday’s national semifinal match-up against No. 22 Grand Valley State University. The Don Hansen team carries out the legacy of long-time small college football advocate Don Hansen, who passed away at age 75 on Aug. 29, 2010. Hansen, from Brookfield, Ill., started and published Don Hansen’s National Weekly Football Gazette for three decades, selecting NCAA Division II All-America teams for the first time in 1988. Don Hansen’s Football Gazette began selecting Division II All-Region squads in 2003. The first-team and second-team All-Region selections advance to a national ballot from which the 2013 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-America team will be named in January. Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association champion Northwest Missouri State University led the way with nine honorees, while MIAA member Pittsburg State University had eight honorees. Great American Conference champion Henderson State University and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference champion Minnesota State University received seven selections apiece. A total of 110 players earned some form of Don Hansen All-Super Region Three honors. Players from 38 of the 47 football-playing schools in Super Region Three earned All-Region accolades.
