HOLYOKE – The Highland Hardware and Bike Shop hosted under True Value has seen many changes and additions over the years, changes they can look back on while celebrating their 75 years of business. Owner Harry Craven was in the business since its beginning, though he admits he was only one-year old at the time. His parents started the shop in April 1946, where they were originally located across the street and they sold gifts, little trinkets, dolls, stuffed ani- mals, and ribbons amongst other small things one would find in a trinket shop at that time. Craven explained that his father wanted to appeal to anyone and everyone who visited the shop, and started to order specific things for those who asked. He said the store started its hardware section with one shovel. The outside of the store has many windows to show the products they offer, a storefront that Owner Harry Craven personally helps A customer asked for a shovel one many people may know just from taking Hampden Street regularly. customers who visit Highland Hardware and day and Craven’s father told them to Bike shop.
