Capital Campaign Groundbreaking Ceremony June 9, 2017 The Quincy Notre Dame Foundation announced the launch of the public phase of The Campaign For Quincy Notre Dame at a groundbreaking ceremony on June 9, 2017, with a goal of $6 million to expand and revitalize the school. Behind the scenes, the QND Foundation has been preparing for this campaign for the past five years and began fundraising more than two years ago. “We had a choice to keep advancing QND in the right direction or fall behind; clearly, the choice was an easy one for us,” said Mark McDowell, QND principal. “We see much advancement in the areas of STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) and feel QND is moving in the right direction to implement “This project marks a huge stepforward for QND. In recent years, it became clear to the Catholic Identity Committee and QND’s Board of Directors that expanding the role of Campus Minister was a top priority. Therefore, with the beginning of the 2017-18 school year came a new position that is critical in expanding our students’ faith formation and outreach opportunities. Mr. Mike Young ’98, a religion teacher at QND, was hired as Director of Christian Formation. Our students have a variety of religious activities to participate in including; Hands and Feet of Christ, Catholic Heart Workcamp, National Catholic Youth Conference, Right to Life March, Tuesday National Catholic Youth Conference and Thursday before school Masses and monthly all-school Masses. Along with these activities, Young has created the St. Joseph who die in our community with little or no family and friends. of Arimathea Society (SJAS) and the Melchizedek Project this The Melchizedek Project is a small group study for young men who year. (RCF) is a lay organization, with many religious members, dedicated to promoting orthodox Catholic teaching and fighting heterodoxy and corruption within the Catholic hierarchy. Our Philosophy While we accept the authority of the Holy Father and all bishops in union with him, we will not sit idly by, nor blindly follow, while many in the hierarchy allow the Holy Catholic Church to be torn apart and assaulted by the forces of Modernism, Syncretism, Heresy, and the gross immorality of some of its clergy. As parents and teachers, we will not allow our Catholic youth to be robbed of their faith or have their innocence destroyed in the name of “tolerance”, “ecumenism”, “diversity” or any other politically correct ideology of the day. We object to individuals or groups of individuals being given access to Catholic schools, churches, and Church property to promote any belief, teaching, or idea contrary to Catholic teaching as defined by two thousand years of Tradition and Church teaching. We expect every Catholic priest to follow the disciplines of the Catholic Church as he promised. We expect every bishop to do all he can to safeguard the souls of our children by exercising his authority to ensure proper teaching within Catholic schools and parish religion programs.

  • A History of the National Review Board
A History of the National Review Board By Michael R. Merz A History of the National Review Board by Michael R. Merz Preface The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops commissioned this history in November, 2009, “to serve as an internal chronology” of the National Review Board. Its intended audience is present and future members of the Board, the Bishops’ Committee on Child and Youth Protection, and members and staff of the Conference. Because of a policy of rotating NRB members, there were no members in 2009 whose personal memories covered the entire history of the Board. Those changes, as well as appointment of new bishops and new members of the CPCYP and staff at the Conference make this history necessary. Hopefully it will be useful as an index to the people who have served on the NRB, the issues they have confronted, and their interactions with the Conference and its bishop members. The author served on the Board from October 2004 until June 2009, acquiring many personal experiences and reactions to events in the NRB history, many of which are reflected in this history, which ends with the June 2009 meeting of the Board. Nevertheless, this is not an interpretive history; the author was cautioned not to editorialize. Although this is a straight factual chronology, the author believes readers will be able to draw useful lessons from it so that the Board’s successes during its first seven years can be built upon and its less successful approaches can be avoided. Sources Information for the period from the adoption of the Charter to November 2004 is taken from the Board’s archival files at the USCCB and from Justice Anne Burke’s papers from her Board work, on deposit at DePaul University.

  • Unacceptable
DJ ______________________________________________________________________________ Unacceptable February 27, 2012 he Obama administration has offered what it has styled as an ―accommodation‖ for religious institutions in the dispute over the HHS mandate for coverage (without cost T sharing) of abortion-inducing drugs, sterilization, and contraception. The administration will now require that all insurance plans cover (―cost free‖) these same products and services. Once a religiously-affiliated (or believing individual) employer purchases insurance (as it must, by law), the insurance company will then contact the insured employees to advise them that the terms of the policy include coverage for these objectionable things. This so-called ―accommodation‖ changes nothing of moral substance and fails to remove the assault on religious liberty and the rights of conscience which gave rise to the controversy. It is certainly no compromise. The reason for the original bipartisan uproar was the administration’s insistence that religious employers, be they institutions or individuals, provide insurance that covered services they regard as gravely immoral and unjust. Under the new rule, the government still coerces religious institutions and individuals to purchase insurance policies that include the very same services. It is no answer to respond that the religious employers are not ―paying‖ for this aspect of the insurance coverage. For one thing, it is unrealistic to suggest that insurance companies will not pass the costs of these additional services on to the purchasers. More importantly, abortion- drugs, sterilizations, and contraceptives are a necessary feature of the policy purchased by the religious institution or believing individual. They will only be made available to those who are insured under such policy, by virtue of the terms of the policy.
