  • Customers, Segmentation,And Targetmarketing
Customers, CHAPTER Segmentation, and TargetMarketing 5 H I INTRODUCTION G G In this chapter, we begin our discussion of marketing strategy by examining custo- mers, segments, and target markets. In Chapter 1, weS referred to a market as a col- lection of buyers and sellers. Now, we focus our, attention on the buyers who collectively make up the major portion of most markets. From this perspective, we concern ourselves with markets as individuals, institutions, or groups of individuals or institutions that have similar needs that can be metS by a particular product offer- ing. As we shall see, firms can attempt to reach all buyers in a market, smaller groups or segments of the market, or even specific buyers onH an individual level. Whether the firm aims for the entire market or smaller marketA segments, the goal of market- ing strategy is to identify specific customer needs, then design a marketing program that can satisfy those needs. To do this effectively, theN firm must have a comprehen- sive understanding of its current and potential customers,I including their motiva- tions, behaviors, needs, and wants. The ability to determine in-depth information aboutC customers is a fairly recent phenomenon in marketing. Fifty years ago, for example,Q technology and marketing know-how were less sophisticated. Marketers of the dayU were unable to fully under- stand customers’ needs and wants, much less make fine distinctions among smaller segments of the total market. Marketers tended to offerA products that came in only one variety, flavor, or style. Today, market segmentation is critical to the success of most firms.

Main Street Mansfield, TX 76063, USA mouser.com (817) 804-3800 For Immediate Release Mouser Electronics Connects with Engineers Through High Technology IndyCar Platform All-new Dallara DW12 Chassis showcases state-of-the-art electronics March 22, 2012 – Mouser Electronics, Inc., regarded as a top design engineering resource and global distributor for semiconductors and electronic components, today unveiled the No. 11 MOUSER ELECTRONICS/GEICO/KV Racing Technology Chevrolet Dallara to be driven by IndyCar Champion Tony Kanaan for the 2012 IZOD® IndyCar Series. The 2012 IZOD® IndyCar Series season will be the 101st season of American open wheel racing. It also marks the biggest change to the sport in recent history as the existing car used through 2011 – a 2003 model Dallara IR-05 powered by naturally aspirated V8 engines – is permanently retired. Driven by the need to increase driver safety and performance, the ICONIC Project (Innovative, Competitive, Open-Wheel, New, Industry- Relevant, Cost-Effective) was led by experts and executives from racing and technical fields. The committee included Randy Bernard, William R. Looney III, Brian Barnhart, Gil de Ferran, Tony Purnell, Eddie Gossage, Neil Ressler, Tony Cotman and Rick Long. IndyCar accepted proposals from BAT Engineering, Dallara, DeltaWing, Lola and Swift for chassis design. At the finish, organizers accepted the Dallara proposal. Under the new ICONIC regulations, all teams will compete with a core rolling chassis, called the "IndyCar Safety Cell," developed by Italian designer Dallara. Teams will then outfit the chassis with various "Aero Kits," which consist of front and rear wings, sidepods, and engine cowlings.

2011 INDIANAPOLIS 500 DAILY TRACKSIDE REPORTS AND DAILY NEWS ARTICLES 1 Indy 500 is first phase of Mann's pursuits By Dave Lewandowski May 12, 2011 While Midwesterners were completing lunch, Pippa Mann dutifully completed the paperwork for engineers and exited the stuffy conference room with a broad smile. An hour earlier, she systematically completed all four phases of the indianapolis 500 Rookie Orientation Program and exited the confines of the No. 36 Conquest Racing car with a broad smile. “I really enjoyed it. It surprised me how difficult it was to stay within the limits that were set, especially toward the end when we put on our second set of tires,” said Mann, who seeks to make her IZOD IndyCar Series debut in the 100th anniversary Indianapolis 500 on May 29. “I went out there and got into a rhythm really quickly because the new tires have so much grip, but was told to back it down a little. We completed all 35 laps of ROP in 35 laps so the boss (team owner Eric Bachelart) is happy. “It was a good first day, and now we can spend some time on the car and spend some time on my fit to get at it Saturday.” That’s Opening Day at the Speedway, when the seven ROP participants will be joined on the 2.5-mile ribbon of asphalt by any/all entrants for a practice session from noon-6 p.m. (ET). The day includes other fan events, including autograph sessions with Parnelli Jones and Danny Sullivan. All the ROP participants -- JR Hildebrand (National Guard Panther Racing), James Hinchcliffe (Newman/Haas Racing), Charlie Kimball (Novo Nordisk Chip Ganassi Racing), Ho-Pin Tung (Schmidt Dragon Racing), James Jakes (Dale Coyne Racing), Scott Speed (Dragon Racing) and Mann – completed at least three phases of the exercise.
