South Island Teams Event 2020

This Fact Sheet sets out the conditions established by Canterbury in consultation with Canterbury Country, Tennis Otago and the Marlborough & Nelson Bays Tennis Associations for the staging of the South Island Teams Event 2020.

1. DATES Saturday 29th August: Round 1 at 9am / Round 2 at 1pm Sunday 30th August: Round 3 at 9am.

2. VENUE Held at Trustpower Tennis Centre @ Wilding Park, 113 Woodham Road, 8062.

3. TEAM ELIGIBILITY This event is open to teams representing the areas of Tasman being a collective of Marlborough and Nelson Bays Tennis Associations, Tennis Otago, Canterbury Town and Canterbury Country (North Canterbury, Ellesmere, Malvern, Mid Canterbury).

4. PLAYER ELIGIBILITY - Members of clubs within their respective association. - Reside in the geographical boundaries of these four areas but be a member of an associated club of Tennis NZ and choose to be selected in that team as opposed to their area of club membership.

5. TEAM ENTRY All regions must select their teams and send to Tennis Canterbury no later than August 7 2020. This should be sent to: [email protected] ​ A minimum of 3 women and 5 men must be nominated by each team (maximum 10 players per team).

6. TEAM MANAGERS Each respective team must have a designated Manager or Team Captain who shall assist in the management of each tie and collection of results.

7. DRAW/POINTS A round robin format will be played allowing for 3 rounds of ties across the two day event. The order of ties being played will be based on the latest Match Hub ranking points with all match results being recorded for points.

1 point will be given each time your team wins a match within a tie. For example, if your team wins 8 matches in the tie, you would receive 8 points. 4 additional points will be given for the team that wins the tie, giving you an opportunity to win a maximum of 16 points per round (12 points from matches + 4 points for tie win).

If the tie is even (6 matches all) the winner of the tie will be based on; -the team with most sets won (a match tie break will count as a set). -if still tied, the team with the most games won. -if still tied, 1 point will be given to each team.

The overall winner of the competition will be the team with the most points gained from the Round Robin format. On the off chance that two teams are even on points, H2H will decide who wins the competition. Should multiple teams finish on the same points, a countback of ‘sets won’ will determine the winner of the competition. If sets are tied, it will proceed to ‘games won’.

8. TIE FORMAT Each tie will consist of; -5x Men’s Singles -3x Women’s Singles -2x Men’s Doubles -1x Women’s Doubles -1x Mixed Doubles A total of 12 matches to be played in each tie.

9. MATCH FORMAT All matches will be the best of two tiebreaker sets to six games, followed by a match tiebreak to 10 points if 1 set all (winning by two clear points). All Doubles and Mixed Doubles matches will be short deuce with the stipulation that in the Mixed ​ ​ Doubles the short deuce points must be received by the same gender as the server.

10. PLAYING ORDER Playing order for singles must be named 30 minutes prior to each round starting. Players are required to play in their ranking BAND order. Players may alternate within a band during the event as long as a lower banded player is not playing above a higher banded player (e.g. a S4 above a S3). Playing order for doubles must be named before the completion of all singles matches and shown to the opposing team before beginning play. The highest banded women’s doubles player must either play in the Women’s Doubles or Mixed Doubles. The highest ranked Men’s doubles player must play in either the top Men’s Doubles or Mixed doubles.

The latest Match hub rankings shall be used.

11. WET WEATHER If ties are unable to begin causing delays, a ‘Wet Weather Format’ may be used. -2x Men’s Singles -1x Women’s Singles -1x Men’s Doubles -1x Women’s Doubles -1x Mixed Doubles

If a tie is halted by wet weather, play will stop immediately and resume when safe. Our aim will be to complete any unfinished ties and only use the ‘Wet Weather Format’ if completely necessary.

12. PRESENTATIONS/PRIZE GIVING The presentation will commence immediately after the last tie of the third round has been completed.

13. RULES The rules of tennis as set down by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) shall be adhered to including adherence to the Tennis Code of Conduct.

14. COST The entry fee of this event will cost $200 + GST per team. This fee will cover venue hire of Wilding Park Outdoor Courts, tennis balls and event administration. This must be paid prior to the event - an invoice will be sent to each respective region.
