KATHIE SHEARER: Michael, it got a bit tough out there at the end, didn't it? That wind really picked up and swirled around. MICHAEL HENDRY: Yeah, it's going to be really, really

difficult out there this afternoon, so fortunate to be on this side of the draw so we can get out there a bit this morning and play some holes in relatively calm weather. It was pretty breezy all day but nothing like the last five or six holes. KATHIE SHEARER: Have you played Kingston Heath a lot?

MICHAEL HENDRY: Not a lot. I've played it a few times before but it's probably the most difficult I've played it today, especially those last few holes, so it's going to be really tricky out there.

KATHIE SHEARER: You've played well of late, I know we interviewed you in Perth. You're confident going towards the weekend? MICHAEL HENDRY: Yeah, I'm playing really well, I think mostly because I'm putting it well. I'm hitting my irons fairly well, I'm driving the ball pretty poorly so I need to get out there and work on that. The thing

about Kingston Heath is, you don't have to have a lot of drivers, you can button back and hit a lot of 3 woods to put yourself in position, and that's what I've been doing effectively, the irons have been going close enough to the hole that I can make a few birdies. QUESTION: Can I just get you to recap your career

and when you made the change, because you played pretty good cricket. I heard you played for New Zealand? MICHAEL HENDRY: Under 19s, yeah. I played representative cricket for Auckland and under 19s for New Zealand, and

.TALISKER MASTERS 2012 1 KINGSTON HEATH GOLF CLUB MICHAEL HENDRY 16/11/12 played until I was around about 26 I finished playing cricket for my club team. Then I played rep cricket all the way up to that. But when I was in my early 20s

I came back from a stint overseas playing professionally in England and busted my shoulder up pretty bad, so concentrated a little bit more on golf after that and the rest is history I suppose. QUESTION: Batsman, bowler?

MICHAEL HENDRY: Bowling all-rounder. So, I used to open the bowling and bat anywhere from - I used to open the batting a bit in the one day cricket and probably 7 or 8 in the longer form.

QUESTION: So is it fair to say you were a social golfer? MICHAEL HENDRY: I would always play the amateur tournaments

around the local scene when I wasn't playing cricket.

Most of my school holidays were spent on the golf course, so I was always playing and always pretty competitive amongst my friends and amongst the group of people that we were playing against locally. But, yeah, it wasn't until I was around 23, 24 that I really started to take it seriously. QUESTION: How did you hurt your shoulder?

MICHAEL HENDRY: I was just bowling. Tore my bicep tendon. QUESTION: Michael, this is a pretty weird possibility here,

but you've probably played the most around the Sandbelt

of anyone that's potentially on the leaderboard here, which is a pretty odd thing for a kiwi I would imagine? MICHAEL HENDRY: Yeah, matey. Obviously Adam's probably got the biggest advantage of anyone. He would have played it millions of times. I've played a fair bit around here over the last few years, down the road at the

.TALISKER MASTERS 2012 2 KINGSTON HEATH GOLF CLUB MICHAEL HENDRY 16/11/12 Spring Valley with the Vic Open, and Victoria for this and the last few years and here in 2009, so I've played a little bit. I really enjoy playing the type of golf that you

have to play around the Sandbelt course. It takes a lot of thought to get round and luckily I've been thinking pretty well, my caddy's been making some great decisions as well. We just seem to be working well as a team at the moment, so hopefully we can continue to do that over the weekend. QUESTION: You have won this year. How much did you learn from that model and going into the weekend?

MICHAEL HENDRY: Winning's funny, you can try all you want

but sometimes it just doesn't happen. Sometimes it's just not your week even if you play well. All I can really continue to do, and it's a cliche, is go out there and play every shot as it comes and try and do my best with each and every one and hopefully the putter will continue to operate. As long as I give myself a chance on Sunday, I'll be happy. QUESTION: Is it right that you travel and you know Matt

quite well? Is that correct? Matt Guyatt? MICHAEL HENDRY: No. QUESTION: Do you know Matt at all?

MICHAEL HENDRY: I know Matt fairly well after playing matches up in Asia over the last couple of years. I haven't really travelled with him much. I know him pretty well, he's obviously playing really well. QUESTION: And cricketers, did you play with any blokes that

went on to play for New Zealand?

MICHAEL HENDRY: Yeah, I'm about the only one from my team

.TALISKER MASTERS 2012 3 KINGSTON HEATH GOLF CLUB MICHAEL HENDRY 16/11/12 who didn't make it. QUESTION: Can you name for us? MICHAEL HENDRY: , Caleb Mills, , , the Marshall twins, James Franklin, heaps of them. QUESTION: Did any of them play a little golf?

MICHAEL HENDRY: A few of them, they're all over the world playing 20/20 and all that sort of stuff now. I still keep in touch with a few of them, especially the Auckland guys, guys like Reece Young and Lou Vincent. QUESTION: If you hadn't hurt your shoulder, would you have

continued with your cricket career?

MICHAEL HENDRY: Tough question. Potentially, no. I injured my shoulder at a pretty inopportune time, but even so, my career was kind of stagnating and I think to be perfectly honest, at best, I might have been a fringe Black Cap. I wouldn't have been a stalwart the that's for sure, so I would have been fighting for a position all the time. I think I made the right decision at the end of the day. QUESTION: In your mind Michael, what's the biggest thing

you've done in golf?

MICHAEL HENDRY: Winning the Indonesian Open was cool, that was my first big win, and to win by 7, it made it easy, which was nice. Playing the World Cup last year for New Zealand was a great thrill. Me and Gareth Paterson represented New Zealand last year over there. We did pretty well, we sort of floundered a little on the third round but other than that we were pretty happy

with our weeks, and hopefully we can go in and do it again sometime. .TALISKER MASTERS 2012 4 KINGSTON HEATH GOLF CLUB MICHAEL HENDRY 16/11/12 QUESTION: What happened on the 9 there? When you came in you blew that way right. Is that sort of something you've got to be cautious of doing when you're in your position sort of going into the weekend? MICHAEL HENDRY: Yeah, like I said, I'm not driving the ball

pretty well, that's the miss that I've got at the moment. When you're standing on 9 and it's howling left to right, 50Ks an hour or whatever it's doing, it's very easy to try and not hit it right, so all of a sudden you're bringing your tee tree and the bunker down the left, it's an absolute no-go. I thought I'd just hit it as hard as I could. I hit it pretty hard, just not very straight. KATHIE SHEARER: Any more questions ladies and gentlemen?

No? Thank you. Thank you very much for coming in

Michael.
