A host of former AFL legends will join Triple M Rocks Footy personalities Billy Brownless and James Brayshaw for the unveiling of an 800 kilogram fibreglass Sherrin which pays tribute to the historic achievements of Terry, Neale, Anthony and Chris Daniher - who remain the only set of four brothers to take the field together in a VFL/AFL premiership match. The giant football will be hoisted on a four metre pedestal over Ungarie’s Bing Wallder Park and is expected to become the next BIG tourist attraction by attracting Essendon and AFL fans from across Australia. With the support of Triple M Rocks Footy, the NSW Government and Bland Shire Council, the project is an initiative of the Ungarie Advancement Group and more than 1000 people are expected to flock to Ungarie for the historic occasion. James Brayshaw will be the master of ceremonies at the unveiling, which will take place at 11am and be followed by a Legends AFL match and Auskick Superclinic at Ungarie Showground. The Legends match will be between The Danihers and the All Stars commencing at 12.15pm. The Danihers team will wear the famous Essendon colours and be made up exclusively of members of the Daniher family with Neale Daniher as coach and Terry, Anthony and Chris Daniher the co-captains. The All Stars team will wear the black and white colours of Ungarie and include former Brownlow medallist and Sydney Swans “Captain Courageous” Paul Kelly and former Essendon stars Bryan Wood, Garry Foulds, Paul Hamilton and Steve Carey alongside a number of current and former Australian football identities from throughout the region. Patrons at the ground will be able to hear live Triple M commentary from James Brayshaw and Luke Francis with special comments on the sideline from Billy Brownless. Wednesday, 7 March 2018 MEDIA RELEASE The match will be played over four 12 minutes quarters and be followed by an Auskick Superclinic conducted by event partner and sponsor AFL NSW/ACT. The Superclinic is open to all young footballers who simply need to turn up on the day to take part. The Ungarie Australian Football and Netball Club will have full bar and barbecue facilities available at the Showground while the Ungarie Bowling Club will host the informal after match celebrations later in the day. To accommodate the large crowd expected on the day, Council will close a section of Wollongough Street (between Ungarie Street and Merrengreen Road) and Humbug Street (between Wollongough Street and Crowncamp Road) between 9am and 12 noon with a traffic detour in place. Event parking will be at the Ungarie Showground with people encouraged to walk the short distance to Bing Wallder Park for the unveiling. A mini bus will be available to transport people between the park and the Showground who may have difficulty walking. Entry to the Showground and all events is free but volunteers will be collecting donations for Neale Daniher’s charity Fight MND on the day while Triple M is also conducting an on air charity drive. For those who cannot make it, Triple M Riverina MIA (Griffith) and Triple M Riverina (Wagga) will be broadcasting live from Ungarie from 8am on Saturday with a live call of the Legends game.

  • Thesis Amended to Examiners Comments
Organizational Culture and Identity: A Case Study from the Australian Football League Gervase A. Haimes A thesis submitted in total fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy VICTORIA UNIVERISTY School of Human Movement, Recreation and Performance Faculty of Arts, Education and Human Development August 2006 ABSTRACT This thesis comprises research that was undertaken between January 2000 and December 2004 into the organizational culture and identity of Fremantle Football Club, a professional sporting organization that competes in an elite national football competition, the Australian Football League. The thesis began with a review of the contemporary literature on the principal topic, organizational culture and identity. The literature was subsequently used to frame and explain the approach taken in the research, which was to explore culture and identity as distinguishable, inter-dependent concepts integral to the functioning of sports organizations. The justification for the need to explore their impact in professional sporting organizations, because of a gap in our knowledge, was also provided. The research was conducted as a single qualitative case study that enabled an in-depth investigation into how Fremantle Football Club’s culture and identity were formed and how they influenced its structure, strategy, behaviour and performance. Significantly, the research covered the entire history of the club since its inception in 1994, revealing three distinct periods in which culture and identity were strongly influenced by the values and beliefs of the club’s leaders, particularly the CEOs, as well as board members, senior management and coaches. The first period comprised a time of self-absorption with an inappropriate culture that saw it in frequent conflict with external stakeholders as on-field success eluded it.

Extracts from NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2017 ANNUAL DINNER 2017 Two time premiership Captain Terry Daniher did another outstanding job as MC at this year’s past Player Annual Dinner at the Windy Hill Social Club on Wednesday 27 September. Over 172 members and guests attended this year’s event. Never one to stick to the running sheet, Terry delighted all those present with his impromptu interviews of Jobe Watson who was attending his first Annual Dinner and Tony Buhagiar who had travelled over from Perth for the event. Terry’s unique interviewing style not only had the audience in raptures but the interviewees as well. EFC Chairman Lindsay Tanner was once again in attendance at this year’s dinner along with Board Members Catherine Lio and Simon Madden. A large number of representatives from other AFL Past Player Associations also attended. Another highlight in proceedings was the presentation of three Debut Guernsey presentations. Mark Harvey presented Matthew Lloyd with his Debut Guernsey and whilst recognising Matthew’s outstanding playing career and his leadership ability, did his best to inform the audience of some colourful but largely unknown incidents from Matthew’s past. Despite how good Mark’s presentation, Matthew responded with a brilliant acceptance speech which was appreciated by all present. Gary Grainger presented 100 game player from the late 60’s and early 70’s, Peter Daniel with his Debut Guernsey. Both managed to provide some great insights from not only their on field actions but also some notable off field activities. Peter’s daughter is Zoe Daniel, a prominent ABC reporter.
