BATTLE AND DISTRICT HISTORICAL SOCIETY INDEX OF THE BDHS ARCHIVE AT BATTLE MUSEUM OF LOCAL HISTORY January 2017 (Updated June 2018) Sarah and Adrian Hall (Updated by Georgina Doherty) INDEX OF THE BATTLE AND DISTRICT HISTORICAL SOCIETY (BDHS) ARCHIVES Notes about the Archive 1. Papers are in box files in the vestibule outside the Museum office. They can only be viewed by prior arrangement as they are behind locked glass panes for security. The files are labelled HS and then alphabetical suffix. Most of the papers inside each box are in numbered plastic or polythene packs. 2. This index is not a complete statement of the Archive because some documents are reputed to be missing from it, eg rolls of maps about Battle. We have not come across these in the Archive 3. Some early BDHS working papers and minutes are in the possession of Neil Clephane Cameron, BDHS Secretary, but a run of some 20 years from the mid 1950’s, is missing . 4. If there ever was a continuous numbering system, many items are now missing. The BDHS Archivist thinks some numbers may have been omitted at the outset. 5. To consult the Archive (intended as a resource for Society members) or find out whether it contains information relating to a particular topic –- please contact: Georgina Doherty, BDHS Archivist, at [email protected] who will be pleased to help.
