Terna is planning to carry out development measures on the grid for a total of about 900 million euro investments, 640 million of which in the Veneto region and 230 million in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, aimed at increasing the safety, quality and efficiency of the electricity system in one of the most important industrial areas of the Country. These measures will allow families and companies to save 32.6 million euros a year with an eye to sustainability and shared choices regarding locations for the works.
The main development measures in the Veneto and Friuli regions are as follows:
1. "Upgrading the High Voltage grid in the Bussolengo and Verona areas ” • Investment: € 41 million euros • Projects: ¾ Building two 132 KV buried long distance power lines (Chievo-Verona Sud and Bussolengo-Chievo) for a total of 24 km. ¾ Building connectors for the new Bussolengo-Garda main line ¾ Building connectors for the main line central Mincio-Castelnuovo-Pozzolengo ¾ Adapting the Bussolengo-San Salvar sub-station to new requirements by developing the 132 kV segment, strengthening transforming operations, upgrading the 220 kV segment and building the appropriate line connectors • Removed overhead lines: over 45 Km; removed pylons: 160 • Status of the projects: two buried cable connections were built; the activities for the Bussolengo S.S. substation are being completed; the connectors for connecting to the new Bussolengo S.S. sub-station the 220 kV and 132 kV lines are still awaiting approval from the Ministry for Economic Development. The necessary authorization procedure was started in June 2009.
2. "Upgrading the 380 kV grid between Venice and Padua • Investment: € 290 million euros • Projects: ¾ A new 380 kV long distance power line, approximately 15 km. long, between Dolo (VE) and Camin (PD), a new sub-station in the Mirano (VE) area and a new 380 kV double circuit overhead power line between Mirano (VE) and Malcontenta (VE), new 380 kV cable connectors, approximately 20 km long, in the Fusina – Malcontenta area; ¾ Upgrading: • New overhead lines: 33 km; removed electricity lines: over 100 km • Buried cables: approximately 60 km • Status of the projects: awaiting approval since December 2007; in December 2009 the Ministry for the Environment issued a decree on environmental compatibility.
3. The 380 kV “Veneto Cross Power Line"
• Investment: € 96 million euros • Projects: ¾ 380 kV line between Venezia nord and Volpago and a new 380 kV sub-station in Volpago ¾ Upgrading: • New overhead lines: 43 km; removed electricity lines: 81 km • Buried cables: 25 km • Status of the projects: under discussion, the feasibility levels are being examined along with the 14 Municipalities involved.
4. The “380 kV Redipuglia - Udine Ovest Power Line" • Investment: € 100 million euros • Projects: ¾ Upgrading: removal of over 100 km of the existing overhead lines in the provinces of Udine and Gorizia • Status of the projects: awaiting approval from the Ministry for Economic Development since December 2008;
The remaining development projects involve the following activities: upgrading the High and Extra High Voltage grid in Pordenone; upgrading the 220 kV grid in Monfalcone; doubling the 380 kV interconnection with Slovenia; building the 380 kV sub-station in the Treviso province; building the 380/132 kV sub-station in the industrial area of Vicenza: building the 220 kV sub- station in Castegnero; renewing the 220 kV main line interconnecting with Austria.
