The Foundation, in coopera- tion with Jone Schlackman, chairperson of the benefit, has been hard at work planning what is sure to be a night to remember. Islanders will recall Jone's many other successful events including last year's Old Schoolhouse Theater Foundation benefit "Ladies Day At Ascot", and also a benefit for the Sanibel Music Festival "Love Makes The World Go Round." Sheila Hoen, Vice-President of the Old Schoolhouse Theater Foundation is pictured here with board member George Madison getting into the spirit of the roaring twenties at The Old Schoolhouse Theater. To help you get in the spirit like Sheila and George, Marsha Wagner, a veteran of the Broadway stage, as well as George Balanchine's New York City Ballet, has generously donated her time and expertise to turn your two left feet into twinkle toes just in time for the Old Schoolhouse Theater Foundation's January 21st benefit at the Beachview Golf Club. This class will help our guests polish up some of those steps they haven't done in years like the Black Bottom and the Charleston. Alexander's, The Hungry Heron and Temptations will be donating light refreshments for the evening's class which will run from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, January 5th at the Civic Center on Library Way. This class is open to all, there is an admission fee of $5.00, couples and singles welcome. This will be a fun class open to all levels and all abilities. The Old Schoolhouse Theater Foundation, a not for profit 501(c)(3) organization has undertaken a Capital Campaign and issued an S.O.S to "Save Our Schoolhouse" and "Save Old Sanibel." This is our last chance to raise $750,000 to purchase and improve the Old Schoolhouse Theater and preserve an Island tradition of professional musical and community theater and save an historic part of Old Sanibei from development. Smith Abstract The independently made 1964 film Nothing But a Man is one of a handful of films whose production coincided with the civil rights insurgency and benefited from input from activists. Commonly listed in 1970s surveys of black film, the film lacks sustained critical attention in film studies or in-depth historical analysis given its significance as a landmark text of the 1960s. Documentary-like, but not a documentary, it offers a complex representation of black life, but it was scripted, directed, and filmed by two white men, Michael Roemer and Robert Young.
