Dear Parent/ Carer,

As a parent/carer of a student in Y11, you are now beginning to ready yourselves for life at college, work or doing an apprenticeship. To this end, The is working closely with our local college providers to develop a package that supports your child in their move to college and beyond.

Over the coming weeks we encourage your child to engage with their college in remote google classrooms, virtual assemblies and tours as well as face-to-face attendance at college. If your child has applied to college and accepted an offer, then your child's college will contact you directly to offer various tours, remote learning and face-to-face teaching. However, if you have not applied or your child is still undecided, your child can attend as many transition events at our local colleges as they feel. All you need to do is contact the college and book a date.

If your child is not able to attend school because they are participating in a college event you will need to re-send the confirmation email from your child’s college to your child’s student support manager, [email protected] who will ensure their attendance is acknowledged.

Attendance to school and school leaving date:

The DfE in their COVID-19 Operational Guidance has set clear guidance to schools about Term 6 for Year 11 students. DfE Guidance Schools should make appropriate judgements on the activities for their own pupils. This might not mean full- time provision and could include visits to education providers, independent study or remote provision combined with attendance in person. We are not changing the legislation that governs compulsory school age. As usual, pupils cease to be of compulsory school age on the last Friday of June in the year in which they turn 16. That means that those pupils (most of whom will be in year 11) are not required to attend school after this date. https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/9851 38/10_May_Schools_Guidance.pdf

As part of our Academy guidance to parents and carers for year 11 students we need to highlight the restrictions that are in place regarding child employment. There are several restrictions outlined by the

Government of when and where children are allowed to work. Full details are available via the Government website link. https://www.gov.uk/child-employment/restrictions-on-child-employment

Any students that are engaging in work experience with an employer as part of their blended learning need to ensure that the workplace holds Public Liability insurance which is viewed by the Academy before the placement commences and also a contact name and address is supplied to the Academy.
