Northfield High School Athletics Newsletter September 19, 2018

Welcome to the Northfiled High School Athletics Newsletter! Nighthawk Nation is published bi-monthly during the school year. Welcome aboard!

Northfield Crowds and Community Support

The Northfield community is reaching levels of support that are off the charts! According to scholarships.com, just over 7% of high school student-athletes move on and play college athletics. Therefore, it is important for our community to celebrate student-athletes and their accomplishments during the high school experience.

For some student-athletes, this will be their final days suiting-up for organized sports, and it is important for the atmosphere to contribute to a favorable, lasting, and memorable experience. For other student-athletes, this phase marks only the beginning.

Five bucks is definitely worth contributing to the applause soundtrack of a student-athlete’s recollection of high school sports. Keep packing the house Northfield.

Nighthawks Homecoming Debut

Congratulations to the Nighthawk Varsity Football team for an amazing 45-30 victory over Alameda International at the homecoming game "under the lights" at All City Stadium. To the POMS squad for rocking the house at half-time too!

Fabulous Freshmen

As you attend Nighthawk Varsity competitions, you may notice the baby faces that are contributing to the success and evolution of Nighthawk athletics. Just months ago, these teenagers were walking the halls of middle school, and now they are being asked to scheme and score on the field, court, and course. The future is now!

Making The Case For Coach Of The Year Coach Krista Meikle has been at Northfield High School since inception and has served in a variety of capacities; including head coach for boys and girls programs. Coach Meikle has an affectionate love of the game, education, and developing young people.

Regardless of the background of the athlete, Coach Meikle has done well and perhaps no better case than the success the boys program has teed off this year. Northfield finished the league in third place with three players receiving honors for the top individual finishes.

- Nathan Rabuck, Sr. First Team All-League - Andrew Blair, Sr. Second Team All-League - Hunter Swanson, Fr. Second Team All-League

For the second year in a row, Northfield Golf is sending athletes to the State Champsionships. Andrew Blair and Hunter Swanson will be competing in the 4A State Golf Tournament on October 1 and 2.

In addition to the player accolades, Nighthawk Nation believes that Coach Meikle deserves at minimum League Coach of the Year consideration.
