Over his fi rst 12 seasons, Schaetzle has guided the Lakers to a 62- Graduate Assistant Coach 70 overall record and a 44-58 mark in conference play. After fi n- • Bucknell, 1997-02 ishing 9-2 in 2012, Schaetzle became the fi rst coach at Mercyhurst, since Jim Offensive Coordinator/Tight Ends/Tackles Chapman in 1991 and 1992, to lead the Lakers to back-to-back winning seasons. • Mercyhurst, 2002-present Schaetzle’s two-year stretch of 16-6 is the best mark by a Laker coach since the Head Coach program’s inaugural boss, Tony DeMeo, led Mercyhurst to a 16-3 overall mark during the 1984 and 1985 campaigns. Year-By-Year At Mercyhurst Schaetzle, a career offensive coach, guided the Lakers to an average of 32.8 points per game in 2013, just shy of the program record of 33.5 set in 2012. The Year Overall Conference offense also fi nished second in the PSAC in rushing average (237.8), trailing only 2002 2-9 1-9 (GLIAC) Bloomsburg in that category. Against Gannon, the Lakers broke a 27-year-old 2003 5-6 4-6 (GLIAC) program record by racking up 628 yards of total offense, including 407 on the 2004 4-7 4-6 (GLIAC) ground, in a 51-21 win over the Golden Knights. The 407 rushing yards were the 2005 3-7 3-7 (GLIAC) third-highest total in school history, but the largest total since becoming a Division 2006 3-7 3-7 (GLIAC)
