Canada West Semifinal #1 Friday, Nov. 5 Thunderbirds 27 Dinos 14 - Defensive back Simon Quinto sparked the UBC Thunderbirds to a 27-14 Canada West semi-final victory over the visiting . Quinto had 5 solo tackles, 2 assists and 2 interceptions. With just over two minutes remaining in the opening half, Quinto stepped in front of a Lincoln Blumell pass and ran it back 56 yards for a TD. The touchdown sent UBC to the locker room with 20-0 halftime advantage, as the Thunderbirds coasted to the win. Calgary was it’s own worst enemy, turning the ball over six times; a fumble, two interceptions and three turnovers on downs. Both clubs seemed to move the ball well, with Calgary racking up 297 yards in total offence and the Thunderbirds 315. 280 of Calgary's yards came in the air, while UBC gained 285 of theirs on the ground. UBC Running Back Akbal Singh rushed for 131 yards on 19 carries, and in the process broke single-season UBC records in both rushing and total yards. He surpassed T-Bird great Glen Steele’s performance of the 1982 season. Calgary’s Blumell finished the evening 29 of 43 for 280 yards, with 2 TDS and 2INTs. The Thunderbirds now await the winner of Saturday’s other Canada West semi between #10 and #3 Saskatchewan Huskies. UBC will host the winner next weekend in the Hardy Cup Final.

Canada West Semifinal #2 Saturday, Nov. 6 Huskies 42 Bisons 16 - The third-ranked Saskatchewan Huskies jumped out to a 25-0 lead mid-way through the second quarter, then cruised to a 42-16 victory over the visiting Manitoba Bisons. Defending Champions Saskatchewan kept the tenth-ranked Bisons off balance all afternoon. On the ground it was the CIAU's second leading rusher Doug Rozon, doing the bulk of the damage, carrying 15 times for 166 yards. Todd Lynden added another 20 yards rushing with two TDs. In the air, Huskie quarterback Ryan Reid connected on 13 of 17 for 196 yards, with 1 TD and 1 INT. Manitoba moved the ball well through the air as quarterback Shane Munson finished with 236 yards passing. However he also threw two interceptions. The two interceptions, coupled with two Bison fumbles were simply too much to overcome against the veteran squad from Saskatoon. Saskatchewan now will have to go through Vancouver if they're going to make a return trip east. The UBC Thunderbirds will host the Huskies next Friday evening in the Final.

Canada West Hardy Cup Final Friday, Nov. 12 Huskies 31 Thunderbirds 24 Vancouver - A faked early in the second half, resulting in a 30-yard touchdown run by kicker Jamie Boreham, lifted #2 Saskatchewan Huskies to a 31-24 Hardy Trophy victory over #1 UBC Thunderbirds. Instead of taking a sure three points, the snap went directly to Boreham, who then scurried 30 yards untouched for the score. The T-Birds took command early. Running back Akbal Singh sprinted 141 yards on 31 carries including 3 TDs. Following Boreham’s TD Saskatchewan's Doug Rozon took the ball 95 yards for a touchdown, putting the Huskies up 24-17 and well on their way to the win. Rozon had 22 carries for 202 yards and a touchdown. The Thunderbirds attempted a late rally, but without quarterback Shawn Olson, who was knocked out the game late in the third quarter. Olson connected on 9 of his 13 passes for 164 yards. Meanwhile, Saskatchewan QB Ryan Reid threw just nine passes, completing four for 98 yards, with 2 TDs and 1 INT. Saskatchewan will now travel to Ottawa or Quebec City next weekend for the . The T-Birds have now dropped three of their last four Hardy Trophy Finals to the Huskies.

Churchill Bowl Saturday, Nov. 20 Rouge et Or 27 Huskies 21 Ste Foy, QC - With 12,000 supporters on hand, Laval knocked off the defending Vanier Cup Champion Saskatchewan Huskies 27-21. The Rouge et Or struck first, as quarterback Mathieu Bertrand bobbed and weaved for 14 yards and the Churchill Bowl’s opening score. Huskies Quarterback Ryan Reid found Kelly McNairn for a 26-yard touchdown pass and the Huskies went ahead 7-6, their only lead of the afternoon. Stephane Lefebvre then capped off a Laval drive with a 14-yard TD run, to go ahead 13-7. Before the half was out, Lefebvre got loose again, this time on a 30-yard Bertrandand TD pass. Laval led 20-7 at the half. Laval running back Mathieu Brassard scored on a three-yard touchdown run eight minutes into the third and a 27-7 lead. Reid kicked the Huskies’ offence into high gear, and through the air they made their charge. In fact, Reid finished the game 28 of 43 for 407 yards, with 2 TDs and 2 INTs. Saskatchewan began its comeback. Reid and Jaret Rennie hooked up for a 13-yard TD to open the fourth quarter to make it 27-14. Then with just 1:23 remaining Huskies Jason Crumb powered over for a one-yard TD bringing Saskatchewan to within six at 27-21. The Huskies then recovered their own onside kick. Moments later Laval's Jean-Vincent Posy-Audette stepped in to intercept a Reid pass and ended the Saskatchewan comeback. Laval held the CIAU’s second leading rusher Doug Rozon to 92 yards on 17 carries. Leading the way for the defensive unit were Pat Boies with 15 tackles and 3 assists, and Benoit Meloche who had 3 quarterback sacks and made three other tackles for losses.
