Major Championship winner joins strong field at Classic

[WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, WV] – Officials of The Greenbrier Classic announced today that 14-time Major Championship winner, 10-time PGA TOUR Player of the Year and two-time FedExCup Champion, Tiger Woods, has committed to compete in the third edition of the reigning “Best in Class Tournament on the PGA TOUR” July 2-8 at The Old White TPC Course at The Greenbrier.

Woods , 36, the winningest player in professional golf over the past 16 years, will be making his first appearance at The Greenbrier Classic. Since turning professional in 1996 he has amassed 72 PGA TOUR victories, third all-time and just one behind and 10 behind former Greenbrier Classic pro-emeritus . Woods’ record includes 14 professional major championships and the 2007 and 2009 FedExCup titles. He is one of only five players in the history of the game to win a career , joining Jack Nicklaus, , and – all winners of the U.S. Open, PGA Championship, British Open and .

From June of 2005 to October 2010 Woods monopolized the number one ranking in the world, setting records for both consecutive weeks and total weeks at the top with 281 and a staggering 623 respectively. Woods has also dominated the TOUR’s money list throughout his career, landing in the top spot a record nine times and placing him No. 1 on the career money list with more than $96 million in earnings.

With two top-10 finishes in eight events so far this season, including a runner up finish at The Honda Classic and a win at the Invitational presented by Mastercard – his first PGA TOUR victory since 2009, Woods is ranked No. 7 in the world, No. 15 in FedExCup points and No. 17 on the money list with more than $1.8 million. His 69.64 scoring average currently ranks third on the PGA TOUR. He has been a member of six U.S. teams (1997, 1999, 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2010) and seven U.S. Presidents Cup teams (1998, 2000, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2011).
