‘Kat Martin has a really fresh, funny and grounded voice. Full of heart and exactly the sort of writer that is missing from the current TV drama scene.’

- Jemma Rodgers, Red Productions (Happy Valley, Years and Years)

‘She has a real warmth and energy to her that I find inspiring. I’m excited by the way she talks about infusing her work with her own experiences. She has a really clear voice and her passion for writing comes through on the page. She’s the real McCoy’

- Kay Mellor, Rollem Productions (The Syndicate, A Passionate Woman, Band of Gold)

Additional information

'It’s important that people feel that theatre is relevant to them and, from the moment we met Kat, we knew she could write for the world we live in now. She has a real warmth and energy to her that I find inspiring, and I’m excited by the way she talks about infusing her work with elements of her

She has a really clear voice and her passion for writing comes through on the page. She’s obviously hungry to get started and I personally cannot wait to work with Leeds Playhouse to develop this new Yorkshire voice.' - Kay Mellor (Band of Gold, Fat Friends and The Syndicate)

‘Kat Martin has a really fresh, funny and grounded voice. Full of heart and exactly the sort of writer that is missing from the current TV drama scene she works hard and with a bit of nurturing could easily become a contender to the new breed of Northern voices following in the steps of and Kay Mellor.’ - Jemma Rodgers, Red Productions (Happy Valley, Years and Years)

‘Kat’s work has a humour, rootedness and truth that is reminiscent of the great Andrea Dunbar, with whom she shares a home town. Her play £1 Thursdays is a raw and compassionate coming of age story that has the potential to connect with audiences hungry to see their own experiences reflected on the stage, and has special relevance to that sought after thing in the theatre - a young audience. Hers is the voice of a Britain we rarely hear – female, northern, working class, funny and furious.’ - Kate Wasserberg, Out of Joint Theatre (Rita Sue and Bob Too, Consent)
