OUR OPINION Tell us more, Mr. Witt he contents of County Commissioner Toby Witt’s memo to the Charter Review T Commission would have come as no surprise back in, say, 2012. (See story, 1A.) It is widely known that commissioners had long been micromanaging county staff to get roads paved in important neighborhoods during election years and worse. Most of these requests never went before the board; they just got done while the other commission- ers turned a blind eye, knowing it would soon be their turn at the trough. With the election of 2012, things started to change. The shift continued in 2014 with the election of Joel Foreman to the post of county attorney. Foreman laid down the law and told commissioners they were play- ing with fire and had to stop. It appeared they did — and looked for all the world Only if you’re ready like real reform was in the works. COLLEGE FOOTBALL PREP FOOTBALL Taggart Barr’s hardship request denied hiring Leavitt as defensive analyst Duo join forces again after coaching together at Oregon in 2017.

By RALPH D. RUSSO Associated Press

Florida State coach Willie Taggart is hiring former Oregon defensive coordinator Jim Leavitt as an analyst to help fix a flailing defense, a person involved with the decision told The Associated Press on Wednesday night. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the hiring was still being finalized. Leavitt worked Willie Taggart in 2017 during the one season Taggart was head coach at Oregon. The Athletic first reported Leavitt would be joining Florida Leavitt State’s staff in the off-the-field role of quality control analyst. Leavitt stayed behind when Taggart took the Florida State job after the 2017 regular Taggart season, hoping to land the head coaching job at Oregon. That went to Mario Cristobal. Leavitt remained defensive coordinator last year, but parted ways with Cristobal after the season and has been out of college coaching since.
