In alphabetical order the eight finalists are:Bill Clark, UAB; Scott Frost, UCF; Lane Kiffin, Florida Atlantic; Jeff Monken, Army; Lincoln Riley, Oklahoma; Kirby Smart, Georgia; Dabo Swinney, Clemson; and Jeff Tedford, Fresno State. “We have an excellent group of finalists who stretch from the East Coast to the West Coast and represent a cross-section of conferences in the Football Bowl Subdivision,” the FWAA’s 2017 President Dave Jones said. “Some of these coaches will be competing for the College Football Playoff national title. • Green Wave Accepts Invitation to New Orleans Bowl
Tulane University Green Wave accepts invitation to New Orleans Bowl December 03, 2013 1:00 AM Ryan Rivet [email protected] For the first time in more than a decade, the Green Wave football team will be bowling in December, and it won't have to travel far to do it. Athletic director Rick Dickson accepted an invitation to the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, which will be held in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Dec. 21. R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl committee representative Paul Valteau (left) extends an invitation to athletic director Rick Dickson for the Green Wave football team to play in its first bowl game since 2002. (Photo by Parker Waters) “This is especially rewarding considering the struggles and challenges this program has seen over the last decade,” Dickson said in a press conference on Tuesday (Dec. 3) in the rotunda of the Wilson Center. “We're looking forward to seeing a great turnout of Tulanians. It's going to be a great day and we're honored and pleased to kick off bowl season.” This will be the first bowl invitation for the Green Wave since the team defeated Hawaii in the Hawaii Bowl in 2002. Tulane hasn't played a home field bowl game since the 1940 Sugar Bowl against Texas A&M. R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl committee representative Paul Valteau said this invitation was one of the most rewarding for him. “From the 1950s on, some of my fondest memories are of walking with my father to Tulane Stadium to see Tulane play,” Valteau said.

  • Many Happy Returns? the Pro-Bowl, Mega-Events, and Tourism in Hawaii
Working Paper Series, Paper No. 15-01 Many Happy Returns? The Pro-Bowl, Mega-events, and Tourism in Hawaii Robert Baumann† and Victor A. Matheson†† August 2015 Abstract We use daily airplane arrival data from 2004 to 2015 from Hawaii’s Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism to determine the net change in arrivals around a variety of sporting events. We find only one event generates a positive and significant net impact on arrivals: the Honolulu Marathon, which generates roughly 3,900 additional arrivals. No other sporting events result in a measurable increase in tourist arrivals including, notably, the NFL’s Pro Bowl, which receives a large subsidy from the state’s tourism authority. JEL Classification Codes: Z28, O18, R53 Keywords: sports, stadiums, franchises, impact analysis, mega-event, tourism †Robert Baumann, Department of Economics and Accounting, Box 192A, College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, MA 01610-2395, 508-793-3879 (phone), 508-793-3708 (fax), [email protected] ††Victor A. Matheson, Department of Economics and Accounting, Box 157A, College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, MA 01610-2395, 508-793-2649 (phone), 508-793-3708 (fax), [email protected] Introduction Sports boosters often make the claim that major sporting events bring large economic benefits to host communities by claiming these events produce an influx of tourists. Economists, on the other hand, suggest that most sports fans at a given event are typically local residents who are spending money as a spectator rather than elsewhere in the local economy. Furthermore, any fans who come from outside the region may be displacing other tourists or are casual visitors who would have come to the area anyway and just happen to include a sporting event in their travels.

(KMA), in association with RTKL, has prepared this real estate market opportunities report related to potential development in the Aloha Stadium station area. The station area is generally defined as the area within a ½ mile radius of the future transit station. Aloha Stadium is one of 21 transit stations being built for the new rail line being built in Honolulu. In the future, the City and County of Honolulu anticipates that development around the stations will be at higher densities than is generally the case today and will be consistent with transit oriented development (TOD) and “smart growth” principles. As part of the City’s TOD planning activities around the future Aloha Stadium Station, this market opportunities study is intended to help inform a future mix of land uses that is conducive to the surrounding areas and will be supported by the real estate market. a) Existing Conditions The planned Aloha Stadium transit station is located along Kamehameha Highway adjacent to Aloha Stadium. The station is roughly at the mid-point of the new rail line running from East Kapolei on the west to Ala Moana on the east.
