2 Northern Ohio Youth Orchestra 2018-2019 Annual Report 3 Endowment Campaign

NOYO’s 2018-19 season marks the 50th anniversary of its founding in 1969. In celebration of this milestone, NOYO’s board and staff embarked on a campaign to raise $50,000 for an endowment fund that will help sustain the organization for another fifty years. With the help of our partners at the Nord Family Foundation, the R. W. Beckett Corp., LifeCare Ambulance, and Mercy Allen Hospital—as well as 180 individual supporters—NOYO raised over $77,000 in pledges. Included in that amount are gifts endowing the Arlene and Larry Dunn Composer-In- Residence Program (which commissions a piece for full orchestra each season from an Oberlin Conservatory composer belonging to an underrepresented group) and the Mark Parish Fellowship (which provides for a Norwalk High School student to participate in NOYO each year). 8 Northern Ohio Youth Orchestra 2018-2019 Annual Report 9 Additional Programs Summer Music NOYO’s Summer Music program has grown significantly in recent years. These fun, engaging, and highly educational experiences are key recruitment vectors for NOYO’s season ensembles. Arlene and Larry Dunn Composer- In-Residence Program Thanks to a transformative gift from Oberlin residents and ardent supporters of contemporary music Arlene and Larry Dunn, NOYO will commission a new work each year from an Oberlin Conservatory composition student belonging to an underrepresented group. Half-Price Lessons In order for all NOYO musicians to take private lessons on their instruments each week, NOYO subsidizes lessons with Oberlin Conservatory students. During the 2018-19 season, NOYO distributed $1,566 in lesson subsidies.
