The committee have worked tirelessly all year to prepare a Show full of displays that entertain, educate and provide a great platform for competition and exhibition. The 2019 Show has all the favourites returning such as the hilarious and exhilarating Lumberjack show, the fast and furious pig racing, milking displays, reptile displays, sheep dog demonstrations and of course the Macarthur area’s, if not Sydney’s best fireworks display brought to you by Foti International Fireworks and Pandora Macarthur and Narellan. Adding to our entertainment selection we are pleased to showcase the Rodeo brought to you by Xtreme Bulls featuring some of the country’s best bucking bulls and cowboys, a show not to be missed on Friday evening. Saturday’s entertainment programme includes the exhilarating Aussie FMX Motocross, the slower Bullock display of yesteryear, an exhibition camp draft display, rural team’s events and of course the Carnival rides operating throughout Show time. Camden Show prides itself on being “Still a Country Show” and as such includes many displays and competitions such as Dairy and Beef Cattle, Goats and Alpacas, Sheep and Sheep Dog competitions, a huge Saturday Dog Show, Produce and Poultry pavilions along with all the Arts, Crafts, Cooking and other displays within the Show Hall. The two days of Show Jumping in the Main Arena along with the many other Equestrian competitions provide great ringside entertainment for the whole family. The Society could not present the annual Show without the support of the community and businesses throughout the Macarthur area. We recognise and thank the large number of existing and new sponsors and volunteers that help us present the Show. Both sponsors and volunteers are recognised throughout the year at various Show functions as we acknowledge our appreciation for their contribution. I encourage anyone who is interested in sponsoring the Show to contact our Office and start promoting your business at our region’s largest community event. The Committee has elected to keep all entry prices into the Show at the same levels as the previous two years and feel our event represents great family value. Through purchasing a Show membership, you are provided two days Show entry, in many cases discounted competition entry fees, members car parking and newsletters throughout the year keeping you up to date on news of your community organisation, The Camden Show. The Snowy River Echo is your only locally owned, pub- lished and printed magazine. We take pride in this and love supporting the community in any way we can. I had a phone call in early February from a resident in Berridale, the lady thought she had missed January’s edition. Explaining to me that she posts a copy each month to an old friend in New Zealand that used to work on the Snowy. I replied with joy now knowing that the magazine (if only one copy) gets to New Zea- land. As discussed with this regular reader, I mentioned that the magazine hasn’t been published in January before but as per the communities feedback we will as of next year publish 12 editions a year. The Monaro’s agriculture show season is upon us. So please support our local towns by attending or partic- ipating! I will be participating in a few of the horse events my self, feel free to come over and say hi! I took a drive to Buchan the other week, a little exploring down the Barry Way to the Mountain Cattlemen’s Get Together. Hosted by the Mountain Cattlemen’s Association of Victoria a great weekend was had by all and on pages 12 and 13 you have a read about some of the history and what went on.

    CROWN CEMETERY DEVELOPMENT, VARROVILLE Presentation from the Scenic Hills Association at Public Meeting of the Independent Planning Commission, 25 March 2019 (Copy provided 26 March 2019) I am the Convenor of the Scenic Hills Association (Association) as well as an owner of state listed Varro Ville Homestead which this cemetery proposal completely surrounds. I am speaking here as the Convenor of the Association though at times I will, of necessity, refer to issues that my husband and I are more involved in. We oppose this Development Application. Trust and Confidence in the Process Unlike the Wallacia cemetery proposal, also being considered by the Planning Commission, cemeteries are and were prohibited in the Scenic Hills E3 Environmental Protection Area, when the Catholic Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust (or CMCT) took out an option on this land at 166-176 St Andrews Road Varroville and applied for a spot-rezoning. It is now almost six years that the community has been fighting this proposal, during which time there has been a notable lack of integrity in the planning process at every level of government, starting with a questionable land deal at the heart of this proposal involving a land developer and certain people on our own Council, that has left us without any trust in the planning system - such that if this cemetery is approved as currently recommended by the Department of Planning (DOP), we will not leave any stone unturned in getting this whole saga investigated by whatever means. We have supported various proposals put to us over the last year – from an integrity commission with powers to investigate past projects (during the Kaldas Review of Governance in the NSW Planning System) to a Royal Commission into the Planning System proposed by the Greens at the election last weekend.

    CAMDEN MUNICIPAL COUNCIL AREA STREET NAME SOUTH CAMDEN Adelong Place The name Adelong appears to be derived from the Aboriginal language meaning "along the way" or "plain with a river". Antill Close Named after the Antill family of “Jarvisfield” Picton. Henry Colden Antill who was born in 1779 in New York of British stock, his father was John Antill. Henry migrated to Sydney on 1/1/1810. Married Eliza Wills in 1818 and in 1825 settled on his estate near Picton, named Jarvisfield; and, in 1844 he subdivided part of his estate on the north of Stonequarry Creek, as the result he made possible the founding of the town of Picton (originally known as Stonequarry). He died and was buried in the family vault at Jarvisfield, in August 1852, survived by six sons and two daughters. Picture of Henry Colden Antill Araluen Place The name 'Araluen' meant 'water lily' or 'place of the water lilies' in the Aboriginal dialect of the Araluen area of NSW Armour Avenue Named after Robert William Armour born 1848 worked at the”Hermitage” The oaks in 1845. A noted bushman and expert horseman. In the early 1850s he brought land at Cobbitty. Son George was a prominent apiarist and well known keen sportsman, barber and poet. He died on 29 Oct 1933 and is buried at St. Paul’s Cobbitty. Arndell Street Most likely named after Doctor Thomas Arndell (1753- 1821), surgeon, magistrate and landholder, was one of seven assistant surgeons who formed the medical staff led by Surgeon-General John White which cared for the convicts in the First Fleet .
