How about a year at The Salvation Army’s own Folk High School in ?

The Salvation Army in Norway have some grants available which are for foreign students who belong to The Salvation Army in their own country. The Jeløy Folk High School is just one of 78 Folk High Schools throughout Norway. Each year these schools are attended by over 7000 young people between the ages of 18-25. Whilst the majority of the students are Norwegians, the remainder come from different countries around the world. The young people come from a variety of cultural and faith backgrounds, but the nine months they spend together help to develop them as individuals and also develop them in relation to their contemporaries.

What is a Folk High School? A Folk High School is a unique education establishment. It is a particular type of school that is especially found in the of Norway, , and , as well as one or two other countries. A Folk High School is a residential school where you primarily learn by doing what you aim to learn about.

No examinations A Folk High School has no exams and it doesn’t grade the students work. The students only reason to study is to learn something useful, rather than to get through an exam. This doesn’t, however, mean that the school provides a lazy year, rather a year where you learn in a different way than in a traditional school environment.

Certificate The school provides an end of year certificate for each student. This certificate will list what the student has done and learned throughout the year.

Jeløy Folk High School The school is owned and managed by The Salvation Army. We have room for approximately 80 residential students. Some of these come to us because of links they have to the Army, but the majority have non-Army backgrounds. This provides us with the opportunity of communicating to them what The SA is, believes and stands for during their time with us.
