Ron passed away earlier in the year, and his children, Greg, Kenny and Tracy Hayes were on hand to present the Cup to Ronald Boland and family, after their horse Peygronic won the Oodnadatta Cup ridden by jockey Helen Gow. Owners of Peygronic are Ronald Boland, Colleen and Dasian Taylor. “Dasian Taylor who is only 16 trained Peygronic for three months, getting up every morning before sunrise and riding him for 5 - 6 km before returning to get ready to go to school at Mintabie”, said Ronald Boland step-dad to Dasian, who took her under his wing to teach and guide her right through to the big race at Oodnadatta. “Dasian track rode and trial galloped Peygronic to get ready for the big one mile race. This would make her the youngest trainer”, said a very proud Ronald Boland. A week prior to the race, Anna Lennon from Oodnadatta organised for Dasian to go to the Bart Cummins and Gaye Waterhouse equestrian school in Sydney where budding young horse enthusiasts are taught skills in race horse training, jockey or stable hand work,” Ronald told us. Dasian will be going to Sydney for 2 years and after passing a 4 week course will become an apprentice jockey for 4 years. “A very big thank you must go to John Peacock, a registered racehorse trainer who gave us Peygronic and to Greg, Andrew and Tracey Above: Presenters of the Ron Napier Memorial Cup at Oodnadatta are Ron Napier’s children, Greg, Napier for presenting the Ron Napier Memorial Andrew and Tracey Napier with Jockey Helen Gow and Beccy. I want to change my choices in life!

I wish to partake in the politically and socially acceptable practice of consuming alcohol, in vast quantities.

“The Government is my Shepherd - he will keep me safe!”

I want to drink alcohol so that it makes me abusive, argumentive and loud-mouthed.

I want to vomit on people, in hotels, cars and taxis, in bed at home or on my hands and knees in front of the toilet.

I want to drink alcohol so that I am grumpy the following morning because I have a mother of a hangover.

I want to bash my friends or strangers alike. I want to abuse, bash batter &/or rape my wife, partner and children.

I want my children to go hungry because I need my alcohol more than they need food and clothing!

I want to hurt my friends, work colleagues, family and I want to kill pedestrians and cyclists or maim people for life.

I know that I do not have to stop and assist them, as I am safe and secure under the Law as the Magistrate will ONLY pat me on the shoulder and tell me that I have suffered enough already.

I know that the Magistrate will say that it is okay for me to go out and do it all again next month.

HOWEVER, I have made my choice in life; I am a Smoker and only wish to harm myself! For my choice in life, I am ostracised by the Australian Government, so that my habit is more expensive and now my family will suffer as living expenses rise and my income dwindles!

I have three questions for the Australian Government and ALL politicians alike:

• When will the Australian Government take the necessary steps/actions and put in place Laws/Acts of Gaol terms to prevent the needless slaughter on “OUR” roads because of Alcohol?

• When will politicians stand up for ALL the people in broken marriages, the battered/beaten partners and the ostracised children in “OUR” Alcohol Ridden Society?

• Why is it that something that is socially acceptable in Parliament but has the most devastating effect across the whole community, not totally banned?

On the heels of the Precious Metals Book, CIBJO, the World Jewellery Confederation, announced they have completed and released the latest version of the Gemstone Book. The first book released after the Congress meeting in Munich, Germany this past Bobby Hunter, Bill Fleming and Garry Birchmore February was the Pearl Book. gather together at the races for some men’s chit chat. The CIBJO Blue Books are a definitive set of standards for the grading, methodology and nomenclature standards for diamonds, coloured gemstones, pearls, precious metals, and recently, also for gemmological terminology and nomenclature. The CIBJO Blue Books were originally compiled, and now continuously updated, by a number of committees comprised of representatives from trade organisations and laboratories in the diamond, coloured gemstone, cultured pearl, precious metals and jewellery industries. The standards represent a consensus derived from the broad expertise on the subject within these committees, and also from individuals outside the committees who had expressed an interest in participating in the development of the guidelines.

Initially, the first three publications were printed with different coloured covers; blue for the Gemstone Book, grey for the Diamond Book, and green for the Pearl Book. In 2007, the Precious Metals book was launched and in 2010 the CIBJO Gemmological Book was released. Today, these publications are generally referred to as the CIBJO Race-goers Trevor Wright, Douglas Lillecrapp, Oodnadatta local Rossy Finn came third inthe Blue Books. Another highlight of the night was the auction of a beautiful appliquéd quilt. Rachel Price, nee Nunn, now residing in Port Augusta, thought of making a quilt for the 120th year. She asked stations and businesses to make their own square depicting something about their life, and Rachel co-ordinated the making of the quilt. It is a beautiful piece of memorabilia, and sold at auction for $1200 to Adam Club patron and Life member Ben Greenwood Plate. I am sure it will find a good home at the Pink cutting the 120th Birthday Cake which was made Roadhouse where the many visitors passing through and iced by Janet Williams Oodnadatta will be able to marvel at and appreciate this unique quilt.

Christie, Stephi and Cassie Sims pictured with Photo: Geri Nunn The committee would like to thank everyone who helped Margie Nunn make the weekend the success it was, from those who so generously sponsor the day, to everyone who travelled to compete, those who brought their race horses and gymkhana horses and all those who came along to enjoy the weekend. The very generous ongoing support we receive from those who come up especially to work for us was complemented this year by five members from Frontier Services’ Outback Links volunteer group, they made a valuable contribution to our event and we were very grateful for all their help.

We are now gearing up for the Bronco Branding and Campdraft which will be held on Saturday, July 10th 2010. Boyd Tope in Steer ride on Friday night of Races For further information about this event, contact Tony Williams on 86707961
