Dick’s Sporting Goods Open Announces Initial Commitments Defending Champion, Nielsen and 7 Others Commit to 78 Man Field

VESTAL N.Y. – The Dick’s Sporting Goods Open is proud to announce today, the first 8 players in the 2010 tournament field. Defending Champion Lonnie Nielsen will be joined by fellow New Yorkers: Joey Sindelar, and Wayne Levi. Additionally, 2009 co-runner-ups and have both committed in addition to 2-time Charles Schwab Cup recipient Jay Haas and Champions Tour Rookie Tommy Armour III. The 2010 Champions Tour event will be held the week of June 21 st -27 th at the En-Joie Course in Endicott, NY. “It is obvious from my conversations with the players and our initial commitments that the players are excited to return to the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open”, said tournament director John Karedes. “Receiving the 2009 Player’s Award for Tournament of the Year, spoke volumes that the player’s recognize the caliber of event we have become, and they want to be a part of it.”, he added. “The 600 sponsors, 1,400 Volunteers and the entire community should be proud that this event has become a premiere stop on the Champions Tour. Of course without the support of Dick’s Sporting Goods and their associates, none of this would be possible.” said Karedes. Nielsen, who captured the 2009 Dick’s Sporting Goods Open by 3 shots won for the 2 nd time in his Champions Tour career. Horseheads native Joey Sindelar who finished 11 th in the 2009 Charles Schwab Cup race once again has joined our field. Sindelar, a 2-time B.C. Open Champion finished in 2 nd place at both the U.S. Senior Open and Toshiba Classic in 2009. At last week’s Allianz Championship he finished 3 rd , 1- shot behind who won in a playoff. Additional home grown favorites, Hulbert and Levi complete the New York contingent. Levi, came back from a double-bypass heart operation at the 2009 Dick’s Sporting Goods Open where he shot back-to-back 69’s on the weekend. Hulbert, the 1989 B.C. Open winner T8 at the 2009 event with 3 consecutive rounds in the 60’s. 2009 U.S. Senior Open Champion Fred Funk has joined our 2010 field. The 2009 second round leader has undergone knee replacement in the off-season and is ready to compete for the coveted Charles Schwab Cup. Funk currently leads the Champions Tour in Sand Saves.

Ronnie Black who tied for 2 nd at the 2009 Dick’s Sporting Goods Open had his best showing of the season at En-Joie. Black finished T6 at the recent ACE Group Classic. 2-time Charles Schwab Cup recipient Jay Haas plans on playing in his 2 nd Dick’s Sporting Goods Open. Haas who finished T5 at the 2009 event was also the 1981 B.C. Open Champion. Champions Tour Rookie, Tommy Armour III who has a 2nd Place (ACE Group Classic) and T9 (Allianz Championship) finishes in his inaugural Champions Tour events has committed to the 2010 Dick’s Sporting Goods Open. Armour, currently leads the Champions Tour in Greens in Regulation. The 2010 Dick’s Sporting Goods Open will be played at the En-Joie Golf Course June 21st -27th . Activities throughout the week include a 2-Day Pro-Am, Dennis Walter’s Golf Show, women’s golf clinic conducted by World Golf Hall of Fame Member Donna Caponi and the Friday Concert featuring Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty..
