Easter is nearly upon us, coming as it is almost a month later in the calendar than it did last year. And while the wait for the fi rst holiday since Christ- mas has been a long one, broken only by a long-forgotten Family Day in February, it will be nice to enjoy a few extra days off in April instead of March. Perhaps there will be more than just a hint of spring in the air by the weekend. The Easter weekend is one we look forward to even more at the newspaper for the simple reason that we take both Good Friday and Easter Monday off from work. The decision was made easy by the simple fact that Good Friday is a statuatory holiday, and Easter Monday is recognized by the federal govern- ment, thus resulting in no mail service that day. No mail? No paper. No paper? No point being at work! Our son and many hundreds of students along with him will appreciate the 10-day break from classes. It really has been a long, cold winter and it will be nice for them to get out, jump in some puddles, soak their feet in icy cold water and get heck when they go home. Kids, take it from me: it’s worth the hounding you’ll receive. There’s not enough youthful years and too many grown-up years not to jump in puddles. Speaking of my son and the soon-to-arrive Easter holiday, he did say something the other day that completely threw me. “I love Eas- ter,” he claimed while I was brushing my teeth and he was fi xing his hair. I looked at him out of the corner of my eye, waiting for an explanation to this abrupt statement. And then the bomb dropped. “It’s all about chocolate,” he completed with an anticipatory grin. That’s when I nearly choked on my mouthful of Crest. ‘It’s all about chocolate?’ I mentally repeated. As quickly as I could, I spit “Don’t say I didn’t warn you Norma –– once you start pilfering seeds and rinsed, and reiterated the statement once more, this time out out of a bird feeder, you become a primary target for dive bombers . . .” loud and with a considerable amount of disbelief in my voice. Yes Man - Jim Carrey is back doing what he does best - making us laugh. This one is a rip on his popular Liar Liar where Carrey plays an uptight man whose life chan- ges when he goes to an empowerment seminar led by a kooky guru (Terrence Stamp). Carrey must then say yes to everything, which is further enhanced when he falls for a free spirit (the always awesome Zooey Deschanel). The comedy comes fast with Carrey taking a Middle Eastern mail bride, helping a homeless man way too much and getting wasted on energy drinks to name a few of the situations. Good stuff - Carry is in top form. (PG) The Day the Earth Stood Still - Keanu Reeves is perfect playing Klaatu, a spaceman sent to earth to warn us of our imminent destruction. Very faithful remake of the 1951 classic (which is included with the DVD and Blu- ray) but with much better special effects. Jennifer Con- nelly plays the girl and Will Smith’s son Jayden is ultra annoying as Connolly’s adopted kid. He is giving his dad a run for his money for ruining movies. AttainTM tackles your bigger weed problems – 40 in all including hard to kill weeds like large kochia, volunteer fl ax, fl ixweed, stork’s-bill and round-leaved mallow. Attain also controls Group 2 resistant weeds, tank mixes with all grass herbicides and offers excellent crop safety.
