Transport Department Notice Special Traffic and Transport Arrangements in Central District for MTR Kong Race Walking 2013

Notice is hereby given that the following special traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented on 14 October 2013 (Monday) during the time periods specified below to facilitate the holding of the MTR Race Walking 2013: -

I. Special Traffic Arrangements

A. Road Closure

From 12.01 am to 11.59 pm The Pedestrian Precinct will be implemented from 12.01 am to 11.59 pm.

From 7.00 am to 3.30 pm In additional to the Chater Road Pedestrian Precinct, the following sections of roads will be closed to all vehicular traffic: (a) The section of Central (eastbound) between Pedder Street and Queen’s Road Central; (b) The section of Ice House Street between Queen’s Road Central and Des Voeux Road Central (except for access to the car parks); (c) The section of Queensway (eastbound) between Des Voeux Road Central and Murray Road; (d) The section of Chater Road (westbound) between Murray Road and Jackson Road; and (e) The western kerbside lane of Murray Road between Chater Road and Queensway.

B. Traffic Diversion

From 7.00 am to 3.30 pm (a) Vehicles on Des Voeux Road Central (eastbound) will be diverted to Pedder Street; (b) Vehicles on Ice House Street will be diverted to Queen’s Road Central (except for access to the car parks); (c) The section of Chater Road between Murray Road and Jackson Road will be re-routed from eastbound to westbound traffic; (d) Vehicles on Club Street will be diverted to turn right onto Chater Road (westbound);

(e) Vehicles exceeding 7 metres in length on Central (westbound) will be prohibited from making left turns onto Club Street; and (f) Vehicles exceeding 7 metres in length on Lambeth Walk will be diverted to Murray Road.

II. Public Transport Arrangements

The following diversions of public transport services and suspension of stops will be implemented from 7.00 am to 3.30 pm:

(a) Bus Routes 1, 5, 5B, 10, 101, 104, 109, 111, 113, 115, 182, 307, 603, 619 and 690 on their eastbound journeys will be diverted to operate via Pedder Street, Connaught Road Central, Harcourt Road and Cotton Tree Drive slip road before resuming their original routeings; (b) Bus Route 11 on its eastbound journey will be diverted to operate via Connaught Road Central, Harcourt Road and Cotton Tree Drive slip road before resuming its original routeing. This route will omit Connaught Road Central westbound, Queen’s Victoria Street and Des Voeux Road Central; (c) Bus stops of the above routes on Des Voeux Road Central between Pedder Street and Murray Street will be suspended. Replacement stop for Routes 1, 5, 5B, 10, 101, 111 and 113 will be provided at Connaught Road Central outside . Replacement stop for Routes 11, 104, 109, 115, 182, 307, 603, 619 and 690 will be provided at Connaught Road Central outside City Hall; (d) Bus Route 26 on its eastbound journey will be diverted to operate via Queen’s Road Central, Pedder Street, Connaught Road Central, Harcourt Road and Cotton Tree Drive slip road before resuming its original routeing. Bus stops at Ice House Street outside house no. 10 and Des Voeux Road Central outside will be suspended. Replacement stops will be provided at Pedder Street outside house no. 20 and Connaught Road Central outside City Hall; (e) Bus Route H2 on its westbound journey will be diverted to operate via Garden Road, Queen’s Road Central, Pedder Street and Connaught Road Central before resuming its original routeing. Bus stop for this route on Connaught Road Central westbound outside Statue Square will be suspended. Replacement stop will be provided at Pedder Street outside . (f) Bus Route 967 on its westbound journey will be diverted to operate via Cotton Tree Drive slip road, Queensway eastbound, Arsenal Street and Harcourt Road flyover before resuming its original routeing; (g) Bus Routes 260, 692, 720 and 780 on their westbound journeys will be

diverted to operate via Harcourt Road flyover before resuming their original routeings; and (h) Green minibus route 22 on its eastbound journey will be diverted to operate via Ice House Street, Queen’s Road Central, Pedder Street, Connaught Road Cental and Edinburgh Place.

Appropriate traffic aids will be erected to guide motorists and notices will be displayed by public transport operators to advise passengers of the above arrangements. Actual implementation of the road closure, traffic and public transport diversions will be made by the Police at the time depending on conditions in the areas.
