Briefing on how Cuba’s architectural patrimony and cultural heritage is woven into the sustainable development plans. Visit to a local tobacco farming cooperative. Afternoon Continue to Las Terrazas intentional community in the Sierra del Rosario hills. Visit the community museum, reforestation project, artists’ studios, family doctor clinic and community garden. 1:00 pm Lunch at El Romero, an organic vegetarian restaurant with a talk by chef Tito Núñez. 3:00 pm Explore the Sierra Rosario Biosphere and Reserve. 4:30 pm Return to Havana Monday January 15: Morning Visit to the Plaza de la Revolution and the INAV success of Centro Civica in the Plaza neighborhood including: Pastorita housing, urban gardens and markets and the modernist design of the Escuela Primaria y Circulo Infantil. Mid day Break (at group’s request, Celimar can make lunch reservation with direct payment) Afternoon Visit the colonial fortresses of La Cabaña and/or Morro Castle. After touring the fortress, visit the Alamar Organoponico Community Gardens the largest and most famous Organoponico in Havana. Tuesday January 16: Morning Visit to the Taller Integral del Barrio (GDIC) neighborhood planning project in Pogolotti. Mid day Break (at group’s request, Celimar can make lunch reservation with direct payment) Afternoon Bus tour of Avenida Rancho Boyers and the Revolutionary housing developments of: Altahabana, Los Arbolesas and/or Capri. Visit to the Hemingway Museum. Evening Farewell party in Old Havana (included). Wed January 17: 8:00 am Check out and transfer to the airport. Afternoon Return flight to the United States. The EANM Dosimetry Committee recommend in 2013 an “Standard Operational Procedures for Pre-Therapeutic Dosimetry (SOP)” based on the assessment of the individual 131I uptake and kinetics. To estimate the 3D dose delivery deviations from prescribed dose during patient specific application of this SOP, a computer Matlab application was developed and verified. It was design to execute: radiopharmaceutical curve fitting, cumulated activity calculations, functional thyroid mass estimation, obtain the therapeutic planning activity to warranty the prescribed dose and produce the 3D planning dose map and related dosimetry parameters. 6 patients with 150-400Gy prescribed dose data planning (average 241,67Gy) were analyzed using the developed application. The developed system was verify successfully using a test image phantom and 6 known pharmacokinetics data. The program fitting results were com- pared with Microcal (TM) Origin (version 6.0), showing not statistical differences (p <0.01). The tridimensional thyroid volume cumulated activity and dose distributions were heterogeneous. 3D dose distribution showed standard deviations between 20.41-108.3Gy (18.01-27.08% of prescribed dose). The differences between maximum and minimum dose value per voxel/MBq were 74-129%, corresponding to 112Gy and 495Gy respectively for the total dose administrated.

Rafael Rodríguez García Facultad de Geografía Universidad de La Habana [email protected] [email protected] INTRODUCCIÓN Desde la Cumbre de Río de Janeiro en el año 1992 hasta nuestros días, el mundo ha sido testigo de un intenso repuntar de la conciencia ambiental, manifestada en la proliferación de grupos y organizaciones de toda índole, la creación de un sin número de instituciones públicas y privadas dedicadas al tema, la celebración de innumerables conferencias, talleres y reuniones y la aprobación de cientos de leyes y reglamentos en todo el mundo, e incluso de diversos convenios ambientales internacionales. Pero lamentablemente, es también en esta etapa donde se han incrementado todas las tendencias negativas para el medio ambiente, siendo las guerras un ejemplo muy claro de maltrato al medio ambiente y, en especial, a la especie humana, dicotomía que pone en tela de juicio la efectividad del despliegue de las acciones antes señaladas, que se han movido básicamente en los ámbitos institucionales y legales sin lograr una repercusión real en el estado del medio ambiente. (Santos, O., 2002) Ciertamente, la alteración de las condiciones naturales de vida es una consecuencia indispensable del desarrollo social de la humanidad. Es también cierto que no siempre el hombre estableció de modo correcto sus relaciones con la naturaleza y todo indica que diversas sociedades, desde la antigüedad, pueden haber sucumbido o al menos adelantado su colapso por esta razón. Sin embargo, es un hecho que esos casos y procesos aislados no son en modo alguno comparables con el carácter global y urgente que hoy caracteriza al fenómeno ambiental.

The project, which began in January 2002, is funded by a grant from the U.S. Agency for International Development. The studies are available in both English and Spanish. The Spanish translations are sent to Cuba through various means. The study is justified by its relevance and timeliness of the issues found in community development and its implications in people and place wellbeing, especially in the most disadvantaged sectors of Cuban society. It seeks to analyse the improvement of life conditions in achieving social inclusion, citizen participation in community. A theoretical analysis of community development and local development within a community capital approach is provided. The experiences of the comprehensive neighbourhood transformation workshops constitute an important contribution to the local/community development process. The use of endogenous resources for managing human, social, political, natural and cultural capital ensures sustainable community development and innovative methodologies for community planning.
