Thanks, Susie, John, Donna and Deb 2 Chi Gong and Tai Chi On Thursday, May 23rd from 10:30-11:15, we will have a member of our HSAP group demonstrating the practices of Chi Gong and Tai Chi. We will then practice these forms. Chi Gong is a Chinese exercise for balancing and motivating energy. It is practiced for good health, calming and leg strengthening. Tai Chi is practiced for better balance, body mechanics and strengthening. Ms. Hogg has 21 years of experience in performing these forms taught by Grandmaster William C.C. Chen and teacher master Scott Caulpetzer. Students 9 years or older or with parental discretion are invited to attend. Parents are invited to participate. There is no cost. Please sign up by May 16th. It will be held in the JB Young Gym.

Superpower Dogs

Your best friends are real-life heroes! On Tuesday, May 7th, at 2 p.m. our HSAP will be attending the movie Superpower Dogs at the . We will experience the life-saving superpowers of the world’s most extraordinary dogs, and the astonishing science behind their abilities. When: May 7th at 2 p.m. Where: Putnam Museum Cost: Students free, adults $8.00 Please sign up by May 6th. 3

Davenport Library The Davenport Library will be providing many activities for May and the summer months. May activities include: May 9th-making a Mother’s Day card at the Fairmount Library from 4-5 p.m.; the Big/Little Book Club at the Eastern Library on May 15th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and a Pikachu party at the Fairmount Library on May 18th from 2-3 p.m. June begins the summer Reading Program-A Universe of Stories with a Summer Reading Blast-Off at the Eastern Library on June 7th from 7-9 p.m. Many space related activities will be held throughout the summer. Calligraphy and Watercolor Classes On May 6th,13th, and 20th you may attend a calligra- phy class with Amy Nielsen or a Watercolor 102 class with Paul Herrera at the JB Young Opportunity Center in room 134. Classes meet from 6-7:45 p.m. and the cost is 45 dollars. For more information, email [email protected]. These are the teachers who we had for our calligraphy classes and they were excellent! 4

Davenport Parks and Recreation Activity Guide This guide has many activities for May and the summer. 1. Iowa State University and Outreach Did you know that you can check out teaching kits on animals, plants, oceans, insects and much more from the extension service located at 875 Tangle- foot Lane in Bettendorf? Working out at Planet Fitness is free this summer from May 15th to September 1st for all teens ages 15-18. Those teens under 15 must have a parent sign for them the first time. Check out the times and terms at Planet Fitness!
