Village Voice Information Exchange Newsletter

Welcome to the first edition of “Village Voice” - published by the Llanpumsaint Community Information Exchange. The group was set up to help communication in the Llanpumsaint Community Council area. With the large number of community groups running a wide variety of activities in the village, holding a number of events throughout the year we will provide a central location with information on the groups and the activities.

The group has been granted funding from County Council under the Sustainable Communities Improving Access to Services programme, to develop a community website and to publish a bi-monthly newsletter.

For this first newsletter we have included information about several groups in the village. Please e-mail [email protected] or phone Ann Pettit on 01559 389044 with items for our next newsletter which will be published in June.

We want this newsletter to contain information about what's happening in the village, so please let us have all your news, including births, marriages and deaths, exam successes and any other stories. Sales/wanted adverts from individuals are free for the time being. Small adverts for local businesses are just £5 per entry.

The website www.llanpumsaint.org.uk is already under development. Each group and organisation in the village will be able to have its own page with information about membership, meeting dates and events. We will have a calendar of events. Businesses can be included for a small fee, so it will become a good source of information for all in the village. If you have a business that you want to be included, just contact [email protected]

Llanpumsaint School

Pupils from years 5 and 6 went on a trip to Cardiff. It was an excellent experience and we had 3 full days of activities, visiting various places.

St David’s day celebrations began with a performance by the children of various songs in town. Then we had a traditional Welsh meal, before an afternoon of competitions from miming to music to a dance routine. The afternoon came to an end by having a taste of some traditional ‘bara brith’.

Several of the pupils have been busy competing in the Urdd Eisteddfod. Congratulations to everyone that took part. The unison party has been successful and will now be going to the Eisteddfod at Llanerch Aeron. Good luck to them.

World book day was noted this year with the children taking part in a game of ‘Who wants to be a millionaire?’ All the questions were to do with books.

Llanpumsaint School PTA.

The school is currently collecting Nestle ‘Box Top Tokens’ available on any Nestle breakfast cereal. These tokens are used to purchase new books for the school library.

If you buy goods over the internet please consider this fun, new and easy way of raising money for your local school, with no cost to yourselves.

easyfundraising.org.uk is an internet based fundraising scheme, where over 600 shops will donate a percentage of their profits to any registered cause. Llanpumsaint PTA has been registered on this website for a year now, and with only eleven members has been able to raise well over £100. Many of the larger shops are affiliated with this website, and you will be especially interested if you ever buy books, CDs, DVDs, clothing and even your weekly shopping online. By shopping through this website, donations to the school will range from 0.5% to 15% of money spent online. Some of the larger car insurance companies will donate up to £35 to the school, just by purchasing their goods through this website. Even if you do not intend to shop online please take a look, I’m sure you will be surprised at the range. Remember - easyfundraising.org.uk.

The walks are mainly local, walking the many public rights of way in the area. We also walk in Pembrokeshire and . We have a wide range of ages and abilities, so the walks are leisurely and very enjoyable.

Our last walk was a circular walk up to Skanda Vale, up a beautiful hidden valley. The walk was about 6 miles, mostly on road and tracks - about 3-4 hrs.

Our next walk will be part of the village fun week on 7th May, starting from outside the Railway Pub at 7.00pm.
